Liked: Nice living Room, many books, good TV and sitting options.

Disliked: The kitchen is very old, kind of ugly. It far away from the city centre.

Liked: If you are looking for out of the town,but not so far and nice atmosphere, this place would be good.Especially who has a car.

Liked: Excellent place! Clean and nice! Loved Mount Eden Village! Maybe the best hostel I have stayed at over the last 10 year!!

Liked: Big kitchen. Lockers in dorm room.

Disliked: The staff were not very helpful. It was mostly long term residents so it wasn't very social. Internet was expensive but this is common in NZ. It is definitely far from the city center.

Liked: The staff is very friendly, some very nice long term tenants, close to a shopping street for all your basic needs and about a 20 minute walk from a discount supermarket for long term stays.

Disliked: It looks a little bit dodgy from the outside but the inside is fine. Dont expect it to be a hotel but when staying in dorms the price is good. The single rooms are a little expensive for what you get.

Liked: Nothing!

Disliked: Upon arrival at 3.30pm I was told by a member of staff that the office is closed ( website says checkin is from 3pm). She then begrudgingly checked us in. This may I add was after a 14 Hr flight.. And not even a welcome to Oaklands Lodge. Our room stank of a cheap perfume and i later noted the bed sheets were badly stained...Absolutely disgusting. I went to reception at 9pm to report the dirty bedsteads. It was closed and no one responded to the customer bell. Exhausted from jet lag I went to bed. In the morning as I was completing my packing, there was a knock at my door at 10.02. It was the same member of staff I met the previous day, asking me if I was staying an additional night.... Check out is 10.00am. I have never come across this type of customer service before. I showed her the stains on the bed clothes which she agreed were awful and said she would speak to the manager. I was then offered the option of staying an additional night.... What an insult! Don't waste your money staying in this place. Rude staff, smelly dirty room. Not worth a 'free' night , even for a backpacker!

Liked: The hostel had a very homely feel to it. The staff were very helpful and worked with us when our travel plans changed.

Disliked: The rooms are a little tired and thus it feels fairly expensive for what you get.

Disliked: Not the place to stay if you're visting Auckalnd as a tourist as there seem to be too many people who are staying there and working so not so interested in meeting new poeple

Liked: clean light and bright, good facilities inc kitchen, washing machine, dryer, telephones etc staff friendly and helpful

Disliked: felt like being on school camp with rules plastered up all over the walls, including one with a threat that if you didn't wash your dishes the CCTV would catch you and you would have to pay a cleaning fine! having to pay for wifi which was slow and dodgy no one there when I arrived even though I let them know what time i would be there, so had to wait out in the cold for an hour before a kindly backpacker let me in. no staff available there after hours in general

Liked: This is a home away from home. Considering it's quite big it really feels like being at home at Oaklands. The rooms were spacious and cosy, the bathrooms were clean and the kitchen and living room were welcoming and big. One of the nicest hostels we've stayed in. Even though it's slightly outside of the city centre the location is great. The neighbourhood is very green and there are lots of lovely little shops, and its only a 5-10 min bus ride into the centre which makes it totally worth staying here.

Disliked: The internet is a bit pricey, but then we've not found many other hostels in NZ that offer internet for free.

Liked: Cleanliness and very cosy atmosphere. You can be alone and rest, or you can go and meet people in TV room. Nice choice. Also it is very close to Mt.Eden - wonderful place to observe sunset and sun rise over the city. It is also a nice hike up to the mountain.

Disliked: internet connection speed could be better. Also it would be nice if internet would be free. It is used not only for facebook etc, but to get directions etc and for many backpackers money is issue.

Liked: Lots of space and privacy in the dorm (single beds) and good locker space. Kitchen facilities were really good and clean. Bathrooms were very clean. Staff helpful

Liked: I liked the cat :) The bathrooms and the kitchen were very clean. Staff were helpful. As we had a car, it was easy to get to the city center.

Liked: Pretty much everything - fantastic location in Mt Eden, clean rooms, helpful staff and a nice big kitchen.

Disliked: Only two computers for internet access but did offer wireless
