Very clean kitchen and dorm rooms. lots of facilities and an ideal location in Arthurs Pass.
Overview
The Mountain House is a unique and delightful place to base your Arthur's Pass vacation. The national park at your doorstep provides numerous day walk and tramping opportunities. In winter take your choice of five local ski fields.
Visit alpine meadows with their wild flower displays and rare native birds. Have an adventure in local caves, canyons, or climb to stunning mountain tops and glaciers. Day trips include Avalanche Peak and the longer trips include the Cass/Lagoon, Goat Pass or the three day crossing of Tarn Col from the Edwards to the Hawdon.
We have lockers to store your gear between tramps, a shuttle service to get you to where you are going and a group of staffers who know the Park.
We are in a birdlovers paradise with kea, great spotted kiwi and rock wrens amongst the local denizens. Rock climbers and mountaineers have many routes to choose from. Cave Stream is a great adventure. At the end of the day, a drink and meal at the Wobbly Kea in town is a great way to top it all off.
