Hotel De Mallemoolen was a great place to stay at. even though it was a very steep climb up two fights of stairs for my room, I believe it was worth every Euro. I personally booked the private double bed at the very top of the hotel and it was perfect for a place to sleep. Deffinatly not a place to hang out thought, the room itself was small and had the two twin beds directly next to eachother forming one double bed. which was fine since we still had enough room to walk around the bed to the sink and had room for our bags and still had the small corner with the tv in it. if you do go there, be warned that that it has small rooms so noise sometimes travels, but then again its two blocks away from the red light district so you will always have noise in the night. over all i say this place is a great stay. they have good breakfast and great polite service and its very nearby the central station.

Privacy, come and go as you please, easy going friendly atmoshpere, excellent location, close to train station, and in walking distance of all major Amsterdam activities. Did not appreciate the marijuana scent from the room below ours

Very clean, very friendly staff, good size rooms. Everything you need. Shared facilities where always clean, and empty actually :). Decent simple breakfasts, with watery milk, but we only woke up for them on 1 day. All around great place, with steep stairs.

The staff was very friendly and helpful. English being a second language in Holland pays off in addition to staff attitudes. My room was on the front one floor up and offered a great view of street life; not too noisy at night (foot traffic and scooters); quiet in the early morning as everyone was sleeping it all off. The hotel is around 200 meters from the central train/bus/tram station but major construction turned this into a 600 meter walk until I found the direct route (not obvious but well-travelled). Lots of restaurants in many price ranges, the proliferation of the famous Amsterdam "coffee shops" added color as did proximity to the more famous red light district. Large presence of polite but firm Dutch police on foot, bicycle and horse keeps shenanigans to an acceptable level for this traveler.

Location was the prime thing here, just across from the Green Grasshopper and very central! Place was pretty clean, showers/toilets good, maid cleaned room daily. Limited social atmosphere but no need this close to the action.

Room small but clean, It was in an excellent location, shared bathroom but shower and toilet on every floor. Staff very friendly and security box available in reception, I would recommend this hotel.
