Liked: It was definitely a good value and the staff was friendly and extremely helpful. The property itself was lovely even if the rooms were a bit bare.

Disliked: The wifi was unreliable and people tended to leave the door of the hostel open. My roommates and I got bitten up by bugs as well. It is a bit of a distance outside central Amsterdam.

Liked: We spent 10 nights in this hostel and traveled extensively throughout Holland and Belgium all day long. Very pleased with the conditions provided by HEM. Fresh towels daily, hot showers, central heating (though it was May, cool weather), clean sheets in our double, French English German Italian Spanish TV channels - exciting conditions for a incredibly low fee! We booked almost a year in advance. Quiet and welcoming hostel, no one bothered us . Congratulations!

Disliked: Customer left no negative feedback.

Liked: Was close to a grocery store and laundry place. Had multi lingual staff reachable at all times. The people were good (as we found with all of Amsterdam). Location is fine if you rent a bike!

Disliked: Cleanliness and upkeep were quite poor. Had to switch out of our first room as the heater was stuck on high. Rooms quite dusty and bathroom made us cringe...

Liked: Very cheap and confortable, its all that you need for stay 1 or 2 nights, its located in a peacefull area, a litlle far for the city centre but very near for metro station.

Disliked: it smells old a litle. the tv didn`t work

Liked: The room was quite clean. Radiators were working well. 24/24h reception. Our key card was not working so the receptionist made us a discount.

Disliked: The bathroom was really small (you could not sit properly on the toilets!!), the water jet was really not powerful, there were no bath curtains so the water was spreading everywhere in the bathroom. Our key card did not work during the whole stay and nobody changed it so we had to return to the reception each time we wanted to enter the room. The Wi-Fi was not working well in the rooms so we had to go to the reception hall one time. We could not cook in the hotel and the restaurant was way too expensive for what they offered (pizzas, pastas...) As they do not ask my PIN code and do not give me a receipt when I paid, I had no idea of how much I paid. And the surprise came out some days after when I discovered they made me pay the double the price I had to.

Liked: Cheap overnight stay. Clean for a hostel and warm rooms.

Disliked: Wouldn't stay for several nights. Quite far away from the city center, you depend on the Tram (20-25 min to central station). Expensive food/drinks at the take-away place inside the hotel part. Food there wasn't great either. I advise to get food in town before you head to the hostel.

Liked: Very good value for money - I couldn't believe that the offer was real at first because it seemed way too cheap for a hotel in Amsterdam.

Disliked: The internet connection was sometimes too slow or not available at all but that's a very minor disadvantage.

Liked: They serve food 24/7 and staff are helpful.

Disliked: Our room was utterly filthy, mould growing on our ceiling, blood on the beds and holes in the walls.

Liked: Very cheap and overall good value for money if you want to get a good nights rest with a bit of privacy away from the CBD

Disliked: The Hostel is very dirty and run down. Room smelt like a 70 year old smoker had lived there all their life. But you get what you paid for I guess!

Liked: Nothing at all. Everything dislike me, I would strongly recommend HostelBookers to take it out of the data base.

Disliked: Absolutely everything. The room, the atmosphere, the employees were rude and manipulated my money without my authorization and the same happened to other guests at the hotel/hostel. The breakfast "dutch" they advertised on the hall never existed and they lied to us continuosly about the cook being absent when we saw the guy ourselves.

Liked: free wifi is quite good

Disliked: the room is very small. i booked a 4 people bedroom but the room just has two single beds. check-in and check-out had troubles as well. i booked online but they said they couldn't find me and wasted lots of time.

Liked: I liked that it was cheap and the location, you can take the tram right to town after a 5 min. walk and there was a albert Hejn very close.

Disliked: The bathroom was quite dirty, it smelled like pee and the sink couldn't keep water so the floor was wet, and there was some visible moisture damage.

Liked: Overall a positive experience. The place is though a good example of "you get what you pay", which means that it's not luxury but if you just are looking for an ok place for a cheap price, then HEM Hostel Amsterdam is for you! =) But the room had a TV, which was a very positive surprise!!

Disliked: The room could have been cleaner and the shower could have worked better, but as I said, you get what you pay and that's why you shouldn't wait any luxury from this place. But you've still got a bed and a bathroom, and that's all you need, right? =)

Liked: That's cool that you are in a boat, but the toilet is far away from the boat in the evening. And it's cold and wet in the night. But for 1 night to experience is Ok, the price is nice.
