it was so quiet in the room you got an excellent nights sleep.
the lounge was cool cause they had a seating area (sofas) for watching dvds, a pool table, bar it has a very americanised feel to it.

This is a fine place to stay- in particular for the 20 somethings out there. I'm 51- with a relatively young spirit- and still enjoyed the hostel very much. It's placed smack in the heart of the RLD, so the location couldn't be better if that's what you're there for. Security was excellent and very tight. The front desk staff were always friendly and professional- though a bit overworked at times.
The hostel is constantly kept clean and tidy by a host of VERY hard working staff- who unfortunately have to do so in response to the extremely messy behaviour of many of the young residents- who seem patently unaware that such things as garbage bins exist...or that their moms havn't gone along on vacation with them. The hostel, though, maintains a no-hassle policy in regard to the residents and gets the job done swiftly and efficiently.
The Bulldog lounge has a widescreen TV in front of a few cushy Chesterfield leather sofas (for zoning out in front of), a line of pay-per-second computers, a bar, a pool table, fooseball and a couple of chess sets for those still straight enough to finish the game they start. A 4 hour loop soundtract rounds it out with a little something for everyone...this kick-ass tape had to have been designed with stoners in mind! You'll be rockin' out within minutes, guaranteed.
There may not be a free lunch but there was certainly a free breakfast at the hostel every morning, before 10:00. It doesn't change from day to day but it's self service and all-you-can-eat.
The only drawback to the place is the noisiness that roomates sharing your dorm room may occasionally exhibit late at night- or early in the morning. There ARE those who tiptoe around- respectfully- but then there are the others. If you're unlucky, you'll get a small group of British lads off on a bender pulling in at 4:00 in the morning... It's always luck of the draw in a hostel dormitory. Should you be so unlucky, the hostel will try to locate another bed in a different room for you.
If one is interested in purchasing something to smoke from a coffee shop, one might be advised, however, to purchase from a shop such as The Grey Area as opposed to The Bulldog- just for the sake of consistent, high quality- as well as for the expertise of the personnel.
Were I to return to Amsterdam I would- without hesitation- re-book again at the Bulldog.
