Liked: Roy, the owner of the boat was very helpful. He gave us a map and explained to us where the major attractions in Amsterdam were, where to go for nightlife, etc. He also printed our boarding passes for us. The breakfast spread was good and there was great American coffee! It is about a ten minute walk into the center of Amsterdam, but not bad considering the great price. Also interesting to stay on a boat!

Disliked: The rooms are tiny, but manageable. If you are planning to spend a lot of time in your room, this is not the place for you to stay. We were only there to sleep so it worked fine for us.

Liked: you're living on a boat so its cool. only for a few days though. the toilets stank. the showers were not clean. its good for a one time experience but overall its cramped, and not very clean. breakfast was not that nice either.

Liked: We stay here 3 nights and it was great.Its very easy to find it and the staff - Roy is very kind and helpful.We came late at night and we advice him about it, we wait for us to make the check in.This is a non smoking boat, thats great.The rooms have enough space.The beds are great.Theres a closet in the room and the view of the window is beautiful.Everything is very clean, enough toilets and the breakfast is very good.If you don't eat something or you prefer something just tell him.You cant cook but you can use the microwaves during the day.Theres no wi fi but you can use his computer to go to the Internet from 11am until 10pm.After the check in he keep your luggage until 9pm.We would come back and recommend it. Liked: The positives - The housekeeper we extremely helpful in terms of getting us oriented with Amsterdam and giving us useful tips about the city. He seems to be a local and I enjoy this kind of interaction more than the bigger hostels where you dont always find a local behind the desk. Amenities on the houseboat are spartan - luggage storage ("you can keep it that corner in the dining hall" .. seems safe as not that many people moving around.), clean bathrooms (recommmend slippers just as in any other hostel), breakfast (nothing fancy, works... The dining hall has good views of the water, nice).Negatives 1) Exteremely tiny rooms, like everyone else has said. If you just want a place to crash, are not very tall and dont suffer from claustrophobia this should be ok.2) Location - about 10 mins from Central. With luggage make that 15. More over is not like you are getting closer to a central location close to all attractions. A location near the Damrak would be ideal, but the houseboat is near the Nemo science museum. While the museum may be great, it is hardly the main attraction. You can hop on a bus from the central station to get here quick. While not a deal-breaker, this is an irritant. If hostels near the central locations are more expensive this can be overlooked.

Liked: Good value for money, great location and very helpful staff. We enjoyed our stay, the rooms are quite small and you might hear the people next door but this was not unexpected.

Liked: the price of the room is decent for amsterdam (amsterdam is quite expensive in comparison to spain!!). the stay is basically..what you pay, is what you get. Caution: rooms are very small..almost the size of a walk-in closet (for the 2-person room). and there's a sewer-like stench that comes from the women's restrooms and showers, so beware. Plus: bunk beds are comfortable, breakfast is good and there was a private sink in the room. I'd suggest just booking for one night and go from there.

Liked: When we first arrived at the hostel, the staff seemed unfriendly and not helpful, but once we spoke to them, we discovered they are quite freindly and helpful and knowledgable about Amsterdam. It's was a big help that breakfast was included, especially in an expensive city like Amsterdam. The whole top floor of the boat is a deck with chairs and a table, so its great for warm weather (although we didnt have any!). Although rooms are veryyyy small, each one has its own sink which is very convenient. Be warned however that the smell of the bathrooms and shower is realllyyy gross! Other than the smell, the Friesland is an excellent place to stay!

Liked: after leaving Friesland, I've just realised that I had left my mobile phone in my room. one week later the owner had send me back my phone! thank you very much Roy! the owner is really friendly and helpful.
