Liked: We stayed at Elbrus Home twice (before and after our trek), and highly recommend it to fellow travelers in Kathmandu. The staff were all very friendly and welcoming. Khem, the owner, was very helpful in putting us in touch with a reputable agency to arrange our trek to Everest Base Camp (guide, flight, permits). We had a great guide and the trek will probably be remembered as our top highlight in our year long travels. In addition to the friendly staff, the rooms are very comfortable, spacious,airy and bright. The nice hot shower was especially appreciated when coming back after our trek! Other great touches include free water (bottled), free baggage storage, yummy breakfast included, wonderful roof patio, and nice quiet location a minute away from all the action in Thamel.

Liked: the hostel owner, khem, raj and al, all three were very helpful in every way possible. the room was clean, provided with towel and warm blankets. breakfast was excellent in the morning as well. i was very happy with the sincerity and homely care that i received from the hostel. i was set up with a trekking company for the annapurna circuit, and i must say that the experience was outstanding and very trust worthy. after the trek, i came back to the hostel to stay for another three nights, and i was able to relax and enjoy the rooftop patio, and most importantly the accompany of the friendly people at elbrus house. thank you so much all the good memories.

Liked: The staff were extremely helpful and friendly, catering for all our needs. The breakfast was of fantastic quality and we were even catered for at 6:00am in the morning! It is located very conveniently for Thamel and also for onward buses to Chitwan National Park. The hostel manager is a wonderful man and shows more care for his customers than any other I have met. I would whole heartily recommend this property to others.

Liked: The owner, Khem, and his assistant, Raj are both great- very helpful, friendly, and welcoming. The included breakfast is great, and they offer coffee, tea, or water all day. When we arrived, they were overbooked, so Khem put us in another hotel across the street. Once a double room opened, we were able to move to the Elbrus Home. The room was comfortable and sunny, and the shower was HOT later in the day- the hottest water in Nepal, I believe (Kathmandu has lengthy power outages and most places seem to have solar water heaters, so afternoons are optimal for hot water).

Disliked: We weren't able to stay there the first two nights we wanted because they were overbooked.

Liked: The best thing about Elbrus Home is the fact that there's a sunny rooftop area, a really nice place to chill and watch Kathmandu. The laundry is quite affordable too, and they do an excellent job. The breakfast was yummy (and free!) but it's not as amazing as everyone keeps saying it is.

Disliked: It was a bit noisy on some nights. There's no internet. It's pretty clean but the bathrooms are a bit crappy and there's never much or any hot water. You could probably find somewhere nicer looking at a better price.

Disliked: cool showers but I get the feeling this is more of a Nepal thing rather than a hostel thing!

Liked: The breakfast is perfect, and the location is also very good. They helped us to buy the bus tickets and that morning the took us to the bus station. The terrace is very nice. The hostel is clean, our room was big, very confortable. I recomend this plase.

Disliked: They didn't have hot water all day.

Liked: This hostel provided an excellent breakfast? Staff were friendly and very helpful. The location is on the edge of the best shopping area in kathmandu. For its cost, good value for money.

Liked: Very helpful staff, went out of their way to accommodate us, very beautiful setting and view from the roof. They may not have a bar or restaurant, but if you ask them they will fetch you beer or takeaway from the local shops. Good size rooms, hot showers, towels and toilet paper provided, good wifi connection. Ooh, and the dog is lovely :)

Disliked: it's good exercise, but walking up and down 4 flights of stairs every day is a killer!

Liked: Close to the centre of the action but nice and quiet at night. Free pickup from the airport was great, avoided the scrum and swiftly taken to the hostel. Wifi was good as was breakfast on the terrace. Khem, the manager, was amiable and happy to advise on tickets etc. No pressure here just a willingness to let you enjoy Kathmandu!

Disliked: Four flights of stairs but good exercise!

Disliked: I booked a room at Elbrus home almost one month before our arriving at Nepal. Ten days before we got to Kathmandu I emailed Khem, Enbrus Home'manager,several times , negotiating about pick up service and chose the service. Unfortunately they drived us to another hostel without notice when we reached Kathmandu at late night. Next day morning I found the fact and complained about the mistake, but they just told me that the hostel has the same manager as Elbrus Home. I was so disappointed but had no time to deal with it. I hope Khem could be nice to the people who are willing to spend their vacation in your coutry and be honest to do business.

Liked: The staff are very welcoming and the rooftop views are great.

Disliked: They were a little disorganised at times but that might just be the relaxed Nepalese way.

Liked: Nice and clean. Very close to but far enough away from the noise and toxicity of Thamel Centre. Great balcony. Good breakfast.

Liked: The place had a beautiful top-roof-veranda where a very good breakfast was served. We loved the banana porridge. A safe place and good location. Khem the manager and the whole staff were always very helpful whatever questions we had.. Khem organized for us ( 8 people) a 2 days tour to Nagarkot with porters and a guide. It was just beautiful to hike and watch the landscape. Khem took the time to be our guide for the monkey temple, Durban Square and one more excursion without charging any money. We stayed 5 nights at Elbrus Home and enjoyed every day. If I travel to Kathmandu once more for sure I will stay at Elbrus Home again.

Liked: The staff was extremely helpful and cheerful, and always made us feel very, very welcome. We also loved the resident dog, who met us at the top of the stairs everytime we returned to the guest house. The morning breakfast out on the rooftop terrace each morning was another highlight.

Disliked: It is arguably a bit overpriced compared to other guest houses in the vicinity. Also, we felt the linen in the rooms could have been cleaner and fresher.

Liked: I'm sure you've read most of the comment but I can honestly tell you the people are very nice, friendly and helpful. The staff at Elbrus go out their way to make sure you have an enjoyable stay and enjoy your time in Kathmandu. I also had an accident whereby I needed to be rush to hospital in the early hours of the morning... the staff were amazing, no questions asked and no fuss. I was out of hospital in a few hours and I was able to resume my holiday. This hostel is also very popular meaning I was able to meet some great people and share loads of travel stories on the rooftop terrese.

Disliked: Nothing. It was great value for money.

Liked: Elbrus Home is in the perfect location in Thamel and has a huge outdoor terrace perfect for kicking back and relaxing after a trek or a day of sight seeing. The silhouette of Himalayan mountains can be seen from the terrace and the staff are extremely helpful and friendly. One of the best hostels I have stayed in.

Disliked: Nothing.

Liked: Located in the heart of Thamel, free breakfast which is good & really adds value. There are cheaper places around but we chose this one for the breakfast, rooftop garden & free WiFi. Happy with the healpful staff, would recommend to other travelers.

Disliked: Great hotel, but maybe shop around for other trekking deals!

Liked: The free airport pickup service was very helpful for first time arrivers. As we didn't have anything planned or booked it was great that the host took us to a travel agent. Although the travel agent was less than mediocre our guide was amazing. We can fully recommend Deepak (contact: guidedipak@yahoo.com), our trip would definetily not have been as enjoyable and rewarding if it wasn't for him. Otherwise the hostel is well located (just mention thamel taxi stop and every cab driver will know where to drop you off). The twin room was fine. It was great that we could drop our luggage for 11 days while trekking. Free mineral water is a definite pro. Free breakfast on the rooftop terrace was nice.

Disliked: In the room we had a little noise from the karaoke bar and a generator. The room and beds are well worn.
