Liked: Tucked away on one of Thamel's busiest roads, Madhuban Guest House is an oasis amidst the hustle and bustle of Kathmandu. There's a beautiful rooftop (where they'll gladly serve you breakfast if you ask), friendly and helpful staff, and rooms are basic but spacious.

Disliked: Rooms aren't cleaned every day, and the hot water comes and goes. But it is Nepal, and this is a budget choice, so overall excellent value for money.

Liked: Good location - Central to Thamel but just away from the main crowds and bustle on a street where you see more locals than tourists. Also there is free internet in the reception and good free WIFI throughout the hotel.

Disliked: Like most of the budget accommodation, it's a bit dated and in need of some TLC. If you like the 70's look, then this is a good place to stop. No breakfast is provided unlike others hotels in the area.

Liked: Staff were very helpful and friendly

Disliked: The Guesthouse is on a dirty smelly street, very noisy with lots of traffic and barking dogs all night long. The room was very dated and very smelly. The bathroom had no window and no ventilation system at all, towels were thread bare and grey as were the bed sheets, I slept in my sleeping bag liner! Much better, cleaner and cheaper guesthouse to choose from. On the way back stayed at a different one that was superb and cheaper!

Liked: The premises were clean, rooftop garden was great and the staff were really friendly & helpful.

Disliked: Expensive for Kathmandu. OK for the first couple of nights to aclimatise though and then either re-negotiate or find a cheaper alternative.

Liked: Very helpful staff, rooms comfy enough, nice hot shower (except when been power cuts which are frequent in Kathmandu) quiet street but close to Thamel. Its a basic hotel but where else can you get for about £5 a night something like this. Nice rooftop to escape the city on. Had 2 nights at start of trip and 4 at end here, was very happy.

Disliked: Area is a bit foreboding at night, but then much of Kathmandu is at night, so not hotels fault.

Liked: The best thing about this place is the roof top terrace. We had breakfast up there in the mornings which was really nice. Our room was very big and light and smelled good. Unlike many other places in Kathmandu, this place has WiFi that works, even on the 4th floor. I had low but sufficient signal both in our room and on the rooftop terrace. The TV was small and not very good signal but doable. The bathroom had seen better days but it was ok. The stuff of the place is very friendly and helpful. You can reach any place in Thamel with a short walk. All in all, this place is good value for the money, we would go back there!

Disliked: Markus left no negative feedback.

Liked: All the rooms have private baths, and since they have solar panels on the roof, the showers are nice and hot from early morning until about 9 p.m. They serve a nice breakfast (although not included in the price of the room) for a reasonable price. The location at the border of Chetrapati and Thamel is ideal, as it is within easy walking distance of everything in Thamal as well as Durbar Square. Extremely nice owners/managers who went out of their way to help in any way they could.

Disliked: WiFi Internet was slow - I found much better speed elsewhere and the rooms were a bit dark and dingy, but the slight negative was far outweighted by the positives in this property, and it was certainly well priced.

Liked: The Madhuban guesthouse is a very high quality hostel. Great location just outside Thamel (2 min walk) and amazingly friednly staff who are always willing to help you as much as possible. I enjoyed it so much that I ended up staying for a total of 11 nights over the whole trip and would definately check in again when I come back to Kathmandu. Great value for money and a great place to start your trip!

Liked: Centrally located in the Thamel, it is the closest you'll find to bliss in Thamel and it's a real oasis. The clean and fresh deluxe rooms with private balcony are the ones to opt for (ask for a garden view) and offer great mid range value. The standard rooms are well furnished with attached hot/cold shower. Staff are the great assets of this hotel.

Disliked: Nothing such is to be disliked.
