Directions to the Island and Lodge: PLEASE read this information carefully!

To get too Inhacazul Lodge (which is located on Inhaca Island which is 34 km "offshore" across the bay from Maputo) you currently only have two "Island Transfer" options – You can either catch a ferry ride across the bay or you can fly to the island on a Sat or Sunday.

During the week (Mon-Fri) you can now only use the short 15 Min daily afternoon (3:45pm) Flight from Maputo Airport to the island..but note you have to "Check-In" at the airport 1 hour before DEPARTURE TIME - our Central Reservations will arrange and provide your flight travel vouchers for you - which have to be checked and confirmed before you make your lodge booking - otherwise you may not get to or from the island on the times anmd dates you need which will then make your island vacation booking impossible to complete..!!

The best choice of these two options is often chosen by guests/visitors based on your time or method of arrival into Maputo or how you wish to travel to and from the island.

– Please Note: the island is a Nature Reserve (since 1976) so no vehicles are allowed on the Island – so you cannot drive to, or take your vehicle (or Quad) onto the island via the ferry!
– All guest vehicles can be safely parked either at the harbor (+/-R20 per day 24/7) if you catch a ferry, or safe parking is available at Maputo Airport if you wish to fly to/from the island.

– Please remember the nearest South African / Mozambique border/customs gate to Maputo is located near Komatipoort in South Africa and only opens at 06:00 till 22:00 each day so unfortunately due to the distance from the border you will not be able to drive in the mornings from the border gate to the island ferry in time (07:30) to depart for Inhacazul Lodge the same morning…So you may choose to stay overnight in Maputo the night before your morning ferry trip to the island.

Which is one reason some guests choose the "option" to fly to the island in the afternoon (this will allow you to purchase food (for your “self-catering” requirements) or just sightsee in Maputo Town centre before you catch the quick afternoon island flight – and then maybe you can catch a return trip home on the ferry! – The only other option is to hire a “private” island charter which is very expensive - Inhacazul Central Reservations Office in Durban can arrange any/all of these island transfer arrangements for you and then just add these ticket costs into your final lodge Balance invoice (that will be sent to you after the deposit is paid via HBC), which allows you to make just one easy payment for both accommodation and island transfers…simple.

Ferry Departure Times/Prices: The old Government ferry operates only 5 days a week in the morning on; Tues / Thurs / Fri / Sat / Sun (Not Mon or Wed for some port related reason) and departs from Maputo Harbor in the morning only at 7.00am (high-tide time) and will arrive on the island 3-4 hours later. The ferry then departs from the island in the afternoon at approx 3.30 pm for the return trip back to Maputo.


Flight Departure Times: The Inhaca island flights leave from Maputo International Airport every day at normally 3:30pm and will only take about 15 minutes to fly to the small island airstrip where they do a quick "turn-a-around" and fly back to Maputo the same day.

These flights are 17 seater planes so you have to book early to make sure you get a seat. The current price of a return flight is $88 per seat (person) incl. Airport Departure Tax and the island taxi fare – (child fare under 2yrs is cheaper). - But please note that due to the increasing fuel prices these Flight prices could change by the time of your trip..!!

If you wish, you can book a single trip on either island transfer option so a ferry trip out and a flight back can be arranged (or vise versa) this way you get to experience two difference types of island travel adventure, if your times and dates of travel allow.

All of the above island transfer payment options can be arranged directly by and with our Inhacazul Lodge’s Central Reservations Office in Durban. (This is done after you have paid your accommodation "Booking Fee" first to HostelBookers.com).
