Oualidia is justly famous for its beautiful beach, landscape and, of all things, oysters! But this small fishing village itself is rather matter of fact and the multitude of stalls and shops along the road actually look somewhat tacky.

But don’t let this seemingly inauspicious start put you off, as the natural surroundings sure do impress - and so does the Dar Zuina when you get there. The only Riad in Oualidia it is totally authentic and oozes the exotic tradition of Morocco. As is the way with such typical town houses, it is centered on a serene courtyard replete with flowers and orange trees that all together emanate a lovely fragrance and it is around this patio that all six rooms are located. Though each one may possess its own atmosphere and colour, the customs of the land are very much alive here too. Hence, the traditional furniture, silk curtains and blankets painstakingly produced by craftsmen, etc. This traditional approach is matched in the culinary stakes too and a highlight here is the breakfast consisting of Beghrir, literally pancakes with a thousand holes. It's also well worth trying the cuisine of Dar Zuina which can be requested on an as is basis. All in all, the Dar Zuina is a place to get the feel of traditional Morocco as well as to make the most of some of the best beaches in the whole of the land. And, of course, don’t forget those oysters - Oualidia is the place to try them out.

Accommodation Information

This large riad also offers a Moroccan lounge with a fireplace, a sitting room opening onto the patio and 6 rooms with bathrooms decorated in a rustic style. The elegant mosaic tiles and the "sabra" fabrics are a delight.

On request, Zahra will prepare couscous, tagines, frothy pancakes and many other treats, not to mention the oysters and seafood from Oualidia.

Riad Dar Zuina is in the upper area of Oualidia, near the beaches and a short stroll from the shops in the "Village", the centre of Oualidia life.
