Liked: Beautifully restored old dar, quiet but great location by bab bou jealoud. Best room on first floor with beautiful high wooden ceiling. Breakfast lovely, fresh squeezed juice and fruit and local breads. Very accommodating with us leaving our bags on the last day whilst we shopped in the medina!

Disliked: Can feel a little lonely - we were the only guests and staff aren't based on site, though You can be met from the airport and get keys whenever you arrive.

Liked: Great place to stay in Fes - a well-located oasis within this chaotic and fascinating city. The room was nice and well decorated, the breakfasts were huge and Mohomed was one of the most helpful people I encountered in Morocco. When I arrived on a late flight, they helped me arrange airport transfer and then Mohamed walked me to a market to buy a few snacks (and even fronted the money as I did not have local currency yet). Great service!

Disliked: James left no negative feedback.

Liked: Dar Houdou is a calm, serene space that has been well thought out. I enjoyed the understated renovations and choices of objects and artisan pieces dotted around the walls and rooms of the riad. The comfortable beds with spotless while linen and bowls of rose buds made going to bed a simple pleasure. It really is totally charming. Small and quiet, in a peaceufl and safe part of the ancient medina....Steve the owner and Mohamed and Sadia his employees were all very knowledgable, welcoming and kind and the breakfast they provide is just to good to believe. Go for it, you will not be dissapointed.

Disliked: Nothing at all.

Liked: It's a beautifully restored house in a great location within the Medina. The rooms are lovely and clean, and the bed and bedding are heavenly. The breakfasts are amazing and the owner and staff kind and helpful. It only has three rooms, so it has a really nice intimate atmosphere. It was our favourite place in Morocco. If you are looking for a beautiful bag from Morocco, ask Steven about his - good quality and price. I really recommend Dar Houdou.

Liked: We had a great stay here. Mohammed was a very gracious host and we felt very welcome. As soon as we arrived we had tea and cakes and Mohammed explained a map of the Medina to us. Breakfast was served in the courtyard and was plentiful and delicious. We would highly recommend getting the pick up from the airport. It cost 150 DH and is worth it because we would not have found the property otherwise. The Medina is like a maze! We would also recommend getting the tour of the Medina (300DH for a full day). It was very interesting and made us feel less lost and more comfortable exploring the Medina afterwards by ourselves. Our guide was very friendly and full of useful information. The rooms were lovely and the Riad is in a great location. Check in and out times were very relaxed. We would highly recommend this place if you are looking for a good value double room in the Medina.

Disliked: The only fault we had with our stay here was our day trip to Volubilis/ Moulay Idriss/ Meknes. We were told it would take 30 - 40 minutes to get to Volubilis but it took 1.5 hours. Make sure you are prepared if you get travel sick because it is quiet a windy drive. We were under the impression that although it was a Friday we would get to have a walk around Moulay Idriss, but we were unable to as our driver said everything was closed and we didn't get out of the car. The Medina was also closed at Meknes so we didn't do much there either, which was a bit disappointing. Definitely don't do this trip on a Friday. We would however recommend getting a driver to Volubilis as it would be hard to get there otherwise.

Liked: it was one of the best places we stayed in in morocco... after an exhausting night in a bus, we were really nicely welcomed with tea and breakfast, getting traveling tips from the owner... it's hard to believe that somewhere between those narrow crowded streets of fes, such a beautiful peaceful typical maroccan building can be found :). the rooms were really nice, bed comfy, even with the heater for the cold days in the room, hairdrier... and very very clean! the mohamad the manager was also very helpful and friendly, perfectly functioning wi-fi... last but not the least amazing breakfast, after a week of marmelade, butter and bread, we additionally got cereals, fruits, pancakes, cheese, cookies... loved it! :)

Liked: The place is right in the middle of the busiest area in Fes, but somehow ends up being an incredibly quiet, relaxing oasis away from all the chaos. I loved everything about the place -- the atmosphere, decor, the smells, the friendliness of the staff... Steve was particularly great. Not only did he walk us to the various restaurants he recommended, but since we had an early train to catch and was going to miss breakfast, he had left out juice, fruit, cereal, bread and jams for us ahead of time. I felt comfortable using the kitchen to make tea and flip through the books in his library, and I loved how quiet, calm and clean the place was. Highly recommended!

Liked: We highly recommend Dar Houdou. It is a beautiful place with 3 rooms. We had the terrace room that a sense of privacy and it's own bathroom with hot water. The linens where very nice. The attention to detail in the guest house shows the love and care that owner Steve Peterson feels for his place. He is an outstanding host. He walked us to 3 places to eat and was there to greet us and to say good bye as we left. It was helpful to have an English speaking person to speak to. The breakfast was very generous with cereal, fruit, pastries, breads, jams and butter. This is a special place, don't miss it.

Liked: All the riads we have stayed in have been excellent but this has been the best. Very friendly and helpful owner who goes out of his way for you, best breakfast yet, tons of character, very clean. The recommended guide Khalid was very good and I'd recommend a half day tour in fes.

Disliked: Nothing but the pickup from the station is recommended especially if arriving late as it can be a bit tricky to find.

Liked: I definitely recommend Dar Houdou to anyone traveling to Fez. Steve is such a wonderful person and very willing to help you around the city and anything you with anything you may need during your time. The facilities are VERY nice. Money well spent!

Disliked: Finding the guesthouse was a bit difficult and required two different Moroccan men to show us there. But, once you find it, it is very close to the medina and easy access to all the must-see spots in Fez.

Liked: Dar Houdou is a beautifully restored guesthome conveniently located in the Medina near the Blue Gate. The owner is hospitable and friendly, as are the staff members. The guest room located on the rooftop terrace is particularly wonderful, offering a nice, quiet, cool respite from the busy streets of the Medina. Also the owner, Steve, and one of his staff, Mohammed, went out of their way to help me when (on the day I was supposed to leave and return to Casablanca) my rental car wouldn't start. They worked with the local parking lot attendant to get my car jump started. And, they contacted a mechanic, and Mohammed and the mechanic brought me to a gas station where I filled up, and they made sure my car started. And, Steve contacted me via email to make sure I made it to Casablanca ok. Really, an all-star cast!!!

Liked: I was really impressed with Dar Houdou accommodations, specially the breakfast which was superb and the best one we had in Morocco. (Cream cheese, freshly squeezed orange juice, crispy bread, cookies, tea, jellies...) Mohammed was very king and helpful. Location is excellent, inside the Medina and very close to the Blue Gate and many restaurants. Very clean, cozy and elegant. It is a very small Hostel, therefore, if you want socialization with other travelers that is not your best option, but other than that, it was one of the best Hostels I have ever been. The owner, Steve, went above and beyond arranging a taxi to pick us up very early in the morning from the bus station and giving us the room before the usual check in time. Loved everything about this place!!!! Angela

Liked: This riad is in the center of the medina, only a 2 minute walk from the Blue Gate... PERFECT location! When we arrived we were given so much helpful information and Mohammed, the manager went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable. Mohammed also got us in touch with an official guide, Khalid, who gave us an incredible tour that taught us much about Fes. This property is clean, the breakfast is delicious and everyday felt like a little piece of home!!

Liked: We are 4 Canadian backpackers usually looking for 15-25 euro per night accommodations. This guest house usually asks for a higher price, but we lucked out as it was the off season. We have never felt the need to review a hotel before, but this guest house did such an amazon job at making our stay comfortable that we felt the need to share our experience. You'll be lucky if Steve the owner is in town! He went above and beyond what he needed to do. He showed us around multiple times, always making sure we knew how to navigate the maze of streets to find our way home. He was funny, down to earth, and warm throughout our entire stay. The guest house is beautiful. It was recently restored, so everything is new and in perfect condition. Modern bathrooms in each room and a modern kitchen. The breakfasts were the best we had all trip. Fresh fruit, bread, jams, etc. The onsite manager arranged a tour for us with a guide. It was incredible. I have heard of other hostels arranging tours with guides who are only really interested in selling you goods. This guest house uses legit guides who care about their city and show it off well. The housekeeper did our laundry for us free of charge. She was very friendly also. All in all I would HIGHLY recommend this guest house to any age group. Our group is 24 years old and we had a great time. One of the other rooms had a mother and daughter stayin there who were around 40 and 70 - this really is a great place for everyone as the guest house, location, and staff made for the perfect introduction to morocco, making us feel safe and welcome.

Disliked: The only negative we can think of: the weather didn't cooperate so we couldn't take advantage of the amazing rooftop terrace.

Liked: We had a great stay at Dar Houdou. Steve is a very welcoming host, he and Mohammed (who organised the heroic breakfasts) made us feel very welcome. Very tucked away but actualy close to main Medina gate, an ideal base from which to explore old Fez. The roof top terrace was secluded and romantic, and it was welcome to be able to use the kitchen to have a break from eating out. Food markets nearby provided all the necessary ingredients. A lovely Riad.
