Dar el Moualim

The Dar El Moualim is a cosy two floor building recently refurbished with two apartments and a suite.

Dar el Moualim is not a usual business, but a develop local project, which provides two direct jobs and that promotes the protection of the medina, which is suffering too many oriental restorations. The house renovation has tried to be as much orthodox as possible, following the tradition in the facades, and in the inner decoration and furniture, but introducing some comforts to improve the stay and the rest of the guests. We wish to offer to the independent, sensitive and cultured traveller a kaleidoscope of authentic experiences inside the heart of a traditional Chaouen neighbourhood. Chaouen has a sweet light, but a harsh climate, with cold nights and wet buildings. We must advice this, though our apartments are prepared to fight against these eventualities (feather duvets, plenty hot water, dehumidifier, heaters and also fire-place in the two bedrooms apartment). During spring season the apartments are fresh and the suite (a bit hotter) is furnished with air-conditioning equipment. The Chaouen medina has big slopes, and to reach our apartments we have to climb a narrow street with steps (about 50 m) as many others in the medina. This small effort will bring us the award of peaceful nights and astonishing views from the private terrace of the suite. Dar el Moualim and its environment is a window to a different world and our best wish is to show it to sensitive travellers. For this reason, if you really wish to be hosted in Dar el Moualim you should remember our proposal and decide if Dar el Moualim suits to your interest. We firmly ask to those tourists not very sensitive to the culture and the heritage, and also those who depend of high level of consumerism and comfort not to book with us. We recommend our lodgement to independent travellers, with some knowledge about Morocco and Chefchaouen, with no physical impediments to step up to Dar el Moualim, which is done in about 10 minutes from the closest parking area.

Accommodation Information

We have two luxury apartments and a suite available. Our apartments comprise of a bedroom with a double bed (1,50 x 2,00 m.)and another bedroom with two single beds (1,05 x 2,00 m.).

The apartments also have a fireplace in the sitting room, a space equipped for cooking and a bathroom. The apartments are very warm, recreating the traditional environment of the old mountain city through their decoration and inner spaces. In these apartments one can live the area with the smells and sounds coming from the streets and the light that come in through the windows. No doubt it is a singular experience.

The suite has a bedroom with a double bed, a living room with a kitchen area and a bathroom. An inner stair goes up to a special terrace which provides an astonishing view of the medina.

Both of the apartments and the suite are fully equipped, with heating, satellite TV, CD-radio player and table games. We have tried to recreate the Chaouen traditions, but with total comfort.

Location Information

The house is located in the 'Al-andalus' area, five minutes from Uta Hammam Square and close to one of the entrances to the medina, Bab El Souk.
