Liked: Nice location. Staff is friendly. And they keep the place very clean. The train station pickup in the early morning as I came in from Irkutsk was very nice and I greatly appreciated that.

Disliked: Stayed for a few days. The facilities are a little tight and narrow. Nothing too difficult to deal with, but the common room is a tad small when the place is even half full. Unfortunately the internet went down on my last day so it was a bit of an inconvenience. But I would not blame the staff or the hostel for that at all. In fact they tried their best to get it sorted out for us. But it was a difficulty for a few people, myself included. A traveling friend and I had a hard time putting a tour together with anyone there. So we took advantage of som local hiking for a few days south of UB. Upon our return, we decided to stay at another hostel to see about a tour. WIthin a few hours we had set up something and were able to leave out on a 5-6 day trip the very next day. Again, nothing against the staff of the hostel. I think it was just the luck of the draw on who was there and who wanted to get onto a tour. But it was a bit difficult for us nonetheless.

Liked: It's easy to arrange tours and meet people here. If you are traveling alone you'll be able to hook up with other travelers. They do a good job keeping the place clean.

Disliked: Since it's high season, the staff is incredibly busy. It's hard to get any attention from the staff, even to ask questions about tours.

Liked: UB Guesthouse provides great tours, they offer good value for your money!

Disliked: The communal room is very small (only 1 couch), a bigger space would be nicer.

Liked: Staff goes out of their way to be helpful. City map provided on check in, excursions explained. Very friendly and honest. Genuine exchange rates are given. Sleeping bags were given to us for the Terelej Tour - free of charge.

Disliked: Unless hiking is your passion, one day and one night for the Terelej National Park Tour is sufficient. Food at the park consists of very 2 basic meals and we should have taken extra food. A torch and sleeping bags are advisable. No washing facilities at the park. If you want to wash, bring more water.

Liked: very friendly staff, good tours on offer

Disliked: the day we stayed the hostel offered free breakfast (as is mentioned on Hostelbookers), however there was a note that they do not serve breakfast between 9-14 July, which is the busiest days of the year (due to Nadaam festival). This was not because the kitchen was closed or being renovated or something, it just sounded like a way to save some money as the hostel is fully booked during that week.

Liked: The balcony in our room was good to quickly dry our clothes.

Disliked: Incredibly tiny communal areas and having to pay $1 for towel, $1 for locker, and $10 for storage room. Other hostels in the area and same bed price do this for free.

Liked: Mr Kim and all the staff are soooo helpful all of the time. The room was tidy, had a great shower, was in a central location and was fantastic value for money!!

Liked: Kim is very helpful and organises trips for you

Disliked: Kim is often out and he is the only member of staff that can sort tickets and payments, so you have to time it for when he is around.

Liked: When we booked we received an email aking for our travel details and were met at the station off the early morning train as promised. We were welcomed to the hostel and offered breakfast and a room until ours was ready. What a change from Russia where we allowed to dump our bags at 7 am on a dark morning and told to come back at 1pm! The staff here are absolutely lovely. The trip we did was great fun. The whole set-up is very slickly run and extremely clean and friendly. Couldn't fault UB Guesthouse.

Liked: the hostel was really fine, but they have to advise strictly about robbery in the street - absolutely don't take backpackers when you go out! don't take anything with you if not absolutely necessary!!!

Liked: Modest amount of tours on offer from the hostel. Picked us up from the station. The people that run the place are nice.

Disliked: This hostel is essentially just a jumping of point for trips. The actual hostel is pretty grim inside and out. Its clean and the matress's are comfortable but horrible to look at. The hostel itself is not a good place to meet people and I have heared (Without seeing.) that there are other places nicer to stay for longer periods.

Liked: I would recommend people to stay here as the staff are friendly and have lots of info re: tours BUT I suspect you might get nicer accommodation elsewhere in UB for the same price. The common room is tiny and is actually a wide corridor with the office and several rooms off it. THere is one sofa (which smells) and it's cramped getting around the sofa to the rooms. The kitchen is also very small - more than 2 people is too many. But, location is fine, beds are serviceable (but not great, i.e. squeaky and sheets that don't quite cover the mattress) and there is free tea/coffee and breakfast (bread with jam and Nutella). Overall, okay, but not value for money compared to Chinese hostels.
