Liked: The tours on offer are amazing. We went on a 5 day tour and we had the best time! There are lots of people staying here so it's easy to make new friends too.

Disliked: There was no hot water when we were staying here and after coming back from the 5 day tour we really needed a shower! Apparently the whole block/area did not have hot water but it would have been good if they had had an electric shower!

Liked: The staff were super friendly and bent over backwards to help us arrange a tour out into the countryside. The atmosphere was good, with two common rooms, and they picked up and dropped us off at the station, which was really useful.

Disliked: Internet was patchy, security wasn't tight (in dorm rooms, we weren't given keys either for the building or for our room), and as it was so busy it was sometimes difficult to speak to someone working there - even when trying to pay for our stay!

Liked: We liked the travellers meeting here.

Disliked: The staff was not kind to us. We got a bad bed and they didn't wanted to change it. They didn't want to let us do that (although there were beds available). Also, most of the time the door is open and you have no key so your valuables are not safe here.

Liked: The staff were great, really helpful and friendly.

Disliked: The noise - it was so loud, if you want to sleep well don't stay here. It's a bit difficult because they let people check in when they arrive (even at 6am) which is really great but if you're already staying there it's not nice getting woken up that early with people leaving, sheets getting changed and new people coming.

Liked: I liked the other people I met there

Disliked: Despite booking a month in advance and then confirming the booking 3 days before, the staff didn't appear to know our names and told us we'd have to sleep not only in two different dorm rooms, but in two different buildings! My friend & I (both female) had each been put in a room with 5 men. The staff were completely unapologetic. We weren't allowed keys for our rooms and no lockers were offered. The staff were consistently rude to us, If the staff didn't like the questions we asked regarding their tours etc, they suddenly decided they didn't speak any English & walked away from us. We heard a story from other travelers about a group of lads who were thrown out of the hostel because they found a cheaper tour elsewhere and asked the hostel if they would price match it. We had booked a Ger tour elsewhere before we arrived and were collected from the hostel, perhaps this is why we were treated this way by them. The 1 day Nadaam festival tour was horrendously overpriced (90,000T/$60 but the only things of any value were an opening ceremony ticket worth 4,000T and a shuttle to the horseracing which UB Hostel charged 10,000T for) It was also very badly organised, they seemed more concerned with herding us back and forth to the bus for unnecessary food than letting us actually see the festival. We missed the archery & ankle bone shooting all together. They'd be better to offer a cheaper shuttle to the stadium and to the horseracing, and tickets to the opening ceremony, and let people sort out their own food & own agenda. One of the staff members spent alot of time telling us how much better they were than the other hostels in the city. I have stayed in many hostels all over the world, and am definitely not a 'whiney traveler', I have never felt the desire to write a letter to the guidebook that recommended a place before but after this hostel I plan to do that. I think it is suffering from getting a good write up in a guide book and turning arrogant.

Liked: A warm friendly place. Reminds me of the old T.V. show "Cheers", a place where everyone knows your name. Its a place where positive energy is welcome and negativity is pushed out the door. During the day staff are busy guiding their guest, helping them find the perfect way to experience Mongolia. And during the night you will enjoy the laughter and excitement of a day well spent. The tours have the same flow of positive energy. The guides and drivers are among the nicest and friendliest people I met during my time in Mongolia. The food on their tours is delicious and surpasses most of the restaurants found in UB. Tours are the best of the best in my opinionAfter bouncing around many different guesthouses and tour companies during my stay, there are none that can compare to the quality and service of the Golden Gobi.

Disliked: chase left no negative feedback.

Liked: Golden Gobi was amazing!! Other backpakkers recommended me GG. It is the best cental place to be in Ulanbaatar where you meet other people and have a fun stay! I staid at other hostels in UB before, but the Golden Gobi has been my best home far away from home,... by far! People are so friendly, speak English, safe, good rooms, hot showers, Chill rooms, always tea or coffee in the living room, free internet and they are so helpfull with your journeys (experts in country journeys) or for other stuff you need help with.... Thank you GG!! For making my stay in Mongolia great!! Greetings, Liane
