Liked: Good location, friendly helpful staff. We booked a private double room and were given a room in a separate building accross the road, which suited us as it was quiet.

Liked: The best hostel I have stayed in so far! The staff were amazingly friendly, and went out of their way to make sure everyone had a good time! Make sure you go for the Thursday night party - a great way to meet other backpackers and locals!

Liked: Brilliant location behind the cathedral. Beautiful roof terrace overlooking cathedral. Use of 2 kitchens. Extensive book exchange. Loved the welcome tequilas. :-)

Disliked: Free coffee in the morning but it was pretty weak.

Liked: LOVED the rooftop balcony with the best view of Zacatecas! Ernesto, and his staff, are great! Loved the welcoming tequila! Price is good. Location is easy to find, and easy by public transport which is always a great thing!

Liked: The location, the staff (especially the owner - very nice and helpful), the beds (super comfortable) and the view from the roof top. One of the best hostels I have stayed at in a while!

Liked: Location is perfect, right next to cathedral, staff was nice

Disliked: Internet was not free, phone calls were relatively expensive, bathrooms were very small!

Disliked: was hard to sleep at night due to Zacatecas being a town that doesnt sleep. bring some earplugs or stay out late :)

Liked: Helpful staff, met some nice people. Great rooftop terrace (good view of the city), close to city centre.

Disliked: If you're staying between Thursday & Sunday: The hostel is very close to a "nightclub" which plays loud music until early morning (around 3-4am). I've got good (motorcycling) earplugs, but they don't help much against the stomping bass. The staff kindly relocated me to another dorm, but that was not much better for the noise either. Sunday night the nighclub was closed, so finally a quiet night. Thursday nights the hostel does Margarita nights – good for socialising & meeting people, but not if you have the dorm upstairs from the kitchen area & want to have a quiet night. (Music until 1am)

Liked: everything. Therefore I stayed one more day.

Disliked: actually nothing important. There were sometimes problems of Internet connection; but they just have got a new router. So there should not be a lasting "problem" (I write these lines from Villa Colonial...) .

Liked: The location was great, as well as the roof.

Disliked: One day the bathrooms were not cleaned and used toletpaper was distributed all over the floor.

Liked: Great rooftop terrace overlooking Cathedral in the main hostel building.

Disliked: X The dorms are not secure. A lot of people who are not staying or working at the hostel hang out in the lobby and on the rooftop terrace giving them access to the dorms. Three guests had things stolen from the dorms during our stay so be extra careful of your stuff when you stay here. X If you book a private room you might end up staying a few doors down from the hostel in other accomodation if they are full. The rooms in the hostel are much nicer, rooms outside the hostel can be mouldy and do not have wireless access available. X An employee of the hostel tried to charge us an extra 50 pesos a night at the end of our stay for staying in a second building. Make sure you have a receipt for your payment and print your hostelbookers receipt to prove how much you owe X Internet is not free for guests.

Liked: The hostel is well located, behind the cathedral, very close to every kind of shops and to the bus stop too, but also very close to a pub, not really easy to have a good night sleep. But I would recommend this hostel and go back again.

Liked: The room was clean and maintained daily. My only issue was that it was very noisy. I am assuming it was other guests, and being in the annex there was not any way that management knew about this or could do anything about it. In that respect I did not feel safe knowing there was no staff member on the property for security.

Liked: Two problems - 1. there was water leaking in the private bathroom and no one bothered to fix it when it was brought to their attention2. some of the guests came in at about 2:00 am staying up to about 5:00am being very noisy (very inconsiderate -they were drinking and had no thought for other guests)

Liked: Great location, great staff, the owner and his brother take care of the hostel and they make sure you have a good time while in Zacatecas. They can organize day trips to see the Charros on the weekends, transfers to Real del Catorce, and to La Quemada Ruins. Most tour operators charge $300 pesos for La Quemada tour, but they charge $80 pesos. It's a great hostel and it's highly recommended for anyone going to Zacatecas.
