Liked: It was right next to the beach and perfect for the main shopping and dining street too. I stayed in a private beach hut style room which was fun and the beds were comfy. The breakfast was basic but great considering the price and style of the Hostel.

Disliked: As the hostel states, it is very basic. We did not have hot water in our room and did not feel is was very secure. There are also a lot of mosquitoes although the hostel provide nets and a plug in spray soon solved the issue. Definitely don't stay here if you want any luxury.

Liked: The hostel has two exits, one leads directly towards the beach, the other one to the (popular) streets/5th avenue! It is far enough from the loud clubs, but still close enough to walk to! But the big plus was the guy/employee that worked there "Gama". I think everybody who stay'd there will agree. The guy knows his ways around town and will proudly walk with you (after work time!!!) to show Playa del Carmen. Also he keeps the atmosphere alive in the hostel. It's a really good place to meet other travellers. I see alot of reviews from people complaining, but if you look around, this is really the best place if you have a small budget and still want a little bit of everything! There are 3 hammocks (get the blue one!) and a kitchen that has everything except an microwave, but that's okay.. We stay'd two night in a dorm with airco and after that, booked another 12 nights in a private room with a fan. We have been travelling around for 7 weeks in Amerika, and popol vuh had by far the best bed!

Disliked: No microwave..

Liked: I had a great stay. The staff is really friendly and helpful. I am going back in a few days. The location is great, couldn't be closer to the beach. It's a perfect place to meet people.

Liked: Definitely the location. It's literaly by the beach and the city center.

Disliked: Not a good place if you're planning to sleep. Too noisy and not very clean.

Liked: Very open minded people, very close to the beach and clubs. Staff was awesome and very friendly, wanted to stay an extra night but we booked tulum already so no biggie. Keep in mind this place isn't luxury. There was no Door for our washroom but the washrooms were very clean and well maintained. There was some trouble with the hot water but they were very attentive to the problem and got it back up in no time. Lots of sand!

Disliked: Nothing.

Liked: courtyard and location

Disliked: bathrooms were not the cleanest and outside shared by many rooms. the staff was not there early in the morning to help with tour questions. ALSO: if you are going to Chichen Itza from playa note that the bus is $50 USD and takes almost 4 hours. A much better deal would be to get a tour from Tulum, for example at The Weary Traveller hostel, which includes lunch and is only $24 roundtrip price.

Liked: The front desk guy is very nice and friendly. He's always asking how we're doing and if he could help with anything.

Disliked: We were leaving for a tour at 730 AM. We asked the manager if we could just get a cup of coffee (he starts breakfast at 8AM, but had opened the restaurant at 6AM). The breakfast was supposed to be free with the room, but the guy wouldn't give us a cup of coffee a half hour early.

Disliked: The room was pretty bad. It's finest quality was a mirror. It was a bed and basically nothing else except for a lizard. But it was cheap. Perhaps the more expensive rooms were better.

Liked: Great Location, close to everything .

Disliked: They give payments only in Euro or US $ . If you tell them you want to pay mexican pesos , they doing a exchange rate I can`t follow . So I paid in pesos little bit more than 186pesos (1EURO - 16.5PESO ).

Liked: Great location with back door access direct to the beach but it's not noisy at night time even though it's in close proximity to restaurants and bars. Our hut was lovely and clean. If we had known how good it was we would have stayed longer but sadly we only had one night this time, our first visit to Playa we stayed somewhere disgusting and more expensive so stay here for sure!

Liked: Some of the en suite cabanas, which I booked, looked very nice, but they were full so I was put into a newly renovated (I mean, the day before) motel-style room. It was clean but had no furniture other than a bed and a broken mirror. The location is great, the front desk guy was very nice, the kitchen is decent, and there are hammocks and tables in a central courtyard. Except for some birds and a beach bar that closes early it was quiet (except that they were renovating the room next door one day). Stay here to relax, not to party with other travelers.

Disliked: I have a feeling it would have been cheaper just to show up at the door and request a room.

Liked: Very comfortable place, in terms of location and cleanliness. In downtown Playa del Carmen but without noise from the streets and right next to the beach.It is really worthy for its price; much better than other hostels that are rated as the best in Merida, Campeche or San Cristobal.It was nice to finally get a clean bathroom and toilet!
