Liked: Incredible location. Definitely a social hostel - the rooftop bar has music going until midnight, so a good place to meet people and have fun.

Disliked: Not a problem for me - but if you are looking for a mellow quiet place to go to bed early - this isn't your best bet. It's in the center of town - and you can hear music (either from the rooftop bar, or nearby bars/clubs) until fairly late at night.

Liked: The location was wonderful. It was right by 5th Avenue and only a block from a very beautiful public beach. My friends and I were able to walk to Wal-Mart, banks, restaurants, clubs, shops, and the beach. None of these places were further than a 20 minute walk. The staff was also very nice. From the moment we got there they were trying to make our stay wonderful. I also enjoyed the rooftop bar and the connections that the hostel had with local night clubs.

Disliked: The beds were very uncomfortable. You could feel every single spring in the mattress. There were also very few bathrooms. The room we stayed in had 14 beds and it had one bathroom. This made it very difficult to get ready in the evenings, as everyone was trying to use the bathroom at once. It was also very, very hot inside the hostel. The air conditioning wasn't kept on unless you repeatedly asked the staff to turn it on.

Liked: Party hostel. Nice staff. Bar and plunge pool on the roof. Big dorms. Clean. Good place to meet people. Clean. Breakfast is the usual. Staff organize nights out and discounts. Very good location. Less then a block from the main street and one and a half to the beach. Stay here!

Liked: The location is pretty un beatable for this hostel .... but if you just walk a few minutes up the street you come across other hostels .... that don't include BED BUGS in all the rooms.

Disliked: BED BUGS BED BUGS BED BUGS. This hostel is RIDDLED!!!! I slept in 4 beds in 2 nights. 3 of which were INFESTED with bugs!!! I had mates in most dorms and all dorms seem to be riddled and have been for many months from what other travellers have told me. Matresses need to be burned and replaced with metal bunk beds.

Disliked: I cannot understand why it has such high rates though because the beds are not the best, it is extremly noisy because it is surrounded by clubs and probably the only hostel that is not offering free water!?!

Liked: All the staff were friendly and helpful, the bar was cheap, the pool was cool and there was a 3rd story rooftop hangout I didn't even know about until 1/2 way through my stay. Probably the best hostel I've stayed at so far, although my sample is kind of small (10).

Disliked: My only complaint is the noise at night, its a party hostel so people come in drunk early in the morning yelling and banging - and there is a very loud club or something behind the building that is open late.

Liked: The thing I liked the most was the staf, they are always in a good mood and willing to help you in anything you need. It is two blocks form the beach, they have a bar at the roof a great pleace to hung out with other people of the hostel.The only recomendation is to improve a little the breakfast.Gracias Pedro, Marcelo, Elizabeth y Rio

Liked: This was the best hostel that I stayed while traveling.Even people from other hostels moved to this place while they were staying, saying that they were disatisfied with their hostel.The facility was good, met lot of friendly people, and had a bar insdie the hostel so people can meet and talk. Most of all, the staff were sooooo freindly. U will not regret staying in here!

Liked: We had such a good time! I was so much fun staying at the hostel Rio Playa! Everybody is so nice and we were partying every night all together! The Location is awesome! It's so close to the beach and the the clubs! You meet people at the hostel from around the world!

Liked: If you want to party and live next to the beach, this is the place to go!The staff make sure you enjoy yourself and run an excellent bar in the heart of Playa del Carmen. I had a great night out every night starting at the Geisha Bar on top of the hostel!If you want peace and quiet this is the wrong place for you. My only quibble is with the beds - they could do with new mattresses as you can feel the individual springs. Nothing else at fault.

Liked: great place to meet other people! The only downside is were were in the mix dorm which is right next to a nightclub so trying to sleep can be a bit of drag. Also there is only 2 comps for the net. Good pub upstairs tho and kitchen was clean.

Liked: Since I was not in Playa to party, I second guessed my choice of hostel every day! Bathroom and are shower were clean but the problem is that there was only one for 14 people! Awesome location and okay staff.

Liked: Great location, staff helpful, rooms are clean and tidy. The ceilings are high with fans and the aircon comes on automatically which is good. Even though there can be some noise made from the partying at the bar outside on the roof, all the doors are semi-soundproofed so you cant hear anything within the dorms. Theres also a second bar on the roof being built, and this place has the cheapest beer I found ($15pesos) within Playa del Carmen.
