Liked: The location was the greatest! Very close to night life. Safe to walk just about anywhere. Friendly staff, though not many guests during the middle of the week when I stayed. Lots of knowledge and help about the area. Great character.

Liked: This place is beautiful and authentic. There is an open area in the middle of the hostel, which is covered, and has balconies for some of the rooms opening to it. The staff was very welcoming and willing to help out with questions about Monterrey, directions, etc. The owner speaks English, but the housekeeper not so much. This wasn't a problem for me, but if you don't speak any Spanish, there are times of the day when she is the only one around.The location is prime. It's right in Barrio Antiguo, a few blocks from all of the nightlife. Don't worry, there isn't a loud bar right next door or anything, so you can sleep at night.My only two gripes were that we didn't get more than 1 key to the room for 3 people, which was a pain twice in our trips. At least 2 keys per room would be good.Also, though the rest of the hostel is very new, clean, modern and spotless, the beds felt otherwise. I could feel the uneven metal springs through the mattress. I'd prefer some cheap foam mattresses to these.Overall, though, I think I'll go back there for my next visit to Monterrey.

Liked: Friendly staff, very clean, prime location for tourism as well as the party scene, worth every penny spent. When we first arrived in Mexico, we ran into a corrupt cop and had to pay him off. When we told JJ about it, he was really upset and wanted to do anything he could to help us out and try to find that cop. That showed me that he actually cared about our visit to his community and wasn't just trying to make money and forget about us. We could count on him and his staff always being there if we needed anything at anytime. I highly recommend this hostel and I know I will be staying there again when I visit Monterrey in the future.
