Liked: The rooms are nice and clean and we got fresh towels every day. But the best is the breakfast; every morning different and freshly made by Jan and Linda. They also provide lot's of information and helped us rent a car. Wifi all over the place.

Disliked: It's pretty far away from the center and you can't use the kitchen (except to make yourself a sandwich) because a lot of travellers before us made a mess of it... So you either have to walk to the center in the evening for dinner or do as we did; get some pizza delivered! Also the room with only a fan was really hot in the night but at the time we were there they were just installing airconditioning which will make your night sleep a lot better.

Liked: The owners Jan and Linda couldn't do enough for us while we were there. The room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was excellent and Linda even took us to the airport for a small charge. The hostel is located very close to the ADO bus terminal and only a 10 minute stroll to the centre of town. In terms of value for money this is an excellent place to stay.

Liked: I feel like I'm a guest during my stay there. It was a great experience of local life. Owners are really friendly. Nice backyard. Breakfast is fantastic. Only 2 blocks away from bus station and a 15mins walk from city center. I'll choose Casa Chalia again if I had the opportunity to visit Merida again.

Disliked: The water was a bit small in the shower at night. The internet was not stable.

Liked: Everything. Jan, the owner of the hostel, was the friendliest and most helpful person I have ever met in a hostel. He made us feel really welcome, making us lovely breakfasts each morning (including some tradition Mexican breakfasts), advice on where to go and how to get there, were to eat (the wonderful Las Vigas!), and let us change room when the first room we were in was a bit noisy. The room was small, but perfectly formed, with a really good ensuite bathroom, a fan, bedside lights, and free air conditioning if you stay there more than a few days. There was also wifi access in the bedrooms, and a clothes washing service offered if you want it. There were also some fantastic hammocks in the back area, very comfy, and a nice way to relax in the evening! This hostel made our stay in Merida!Advice from our stay, if you go to Chichen Itza, get the first class bus, the cheaper one takes three hours to get there! Also, Uxmal is definitely worth a visit as it is beautiful, but don't forget to take plenty of water, as they don't sell it inside the sites, and you will need it! Also, for a really lovely sandy beach, get the bus to Progresso, only about 45min journey and was really beautiful!

Disliked: Nothing, everything was ace!
