Liked: easy access to the beach, close to a bus stop

Disliked: The hostel is very difficult to find and the instructions given are awful. the bus journey from georgetown takes at least an hour. Once you manage to figure out the correct bus stop, you must negotiate the crossing of a busy dual-carriageway. the room was unclean and the bathroom small and full of bird/gecko mess. The worst part though was finding a rat in the room - which the owner just shrugged his shoulders about and did nothing about it.

Liked: The management are so friendly and it is a 2 minute walk to a peaceful beach. Also there is an amazing food court on the corner - delicious and cheap and full of life. Buses to anywhere just 2 minutes walk from the property.

Disliked: It is a bit tired looking and could do with a fresh coat of paint. Breakfasts are very ordinary and the cereal was stale.

Liked: Relaxing and very helpful friendly staff. Rooms large and well equipped. Great location very close to beach.

Liked: The staff are welcoming, freindly and very helpfull. It is in a nice location, about a minute from the beach, which is very nice and peacefull. It is also only a two minute walk to the food market which serves great food with a huge variety at very cheap prices.

Liked: Very friendly atmosphere. The staff were very helpful, at one point escorting one of my friends to the hospital.

Disliked: Compared to the other hostels we have stayed at in Malaysia and Thailand this definitely had the poorest facilities and rooms. Very poor laundry service.

Liked: Staff were excellent, really made the place nice to stay at.

Disliked: The walls are paper thin - like, it's almost as though there are no walls between you and the room next to you. 3 of the nights we stayed, we had the noisiest person in the world in the next room (after 28 countries, he was the noisiest person we have ever stayed next to). So this meant sleepless nights, and having to listen to everything, every word, every snore, every footstep.

Liked: Really friendly and helpful people. Good value for money. Although it is not located in the real tourist centre, you can get anywhere by bus. There is a busstop 2 minutes walking from the hostel and buses drive every 25 minutes. We really enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to other travellers. The free and fast internetconnection is also a nice extra.

Liked: Nark, his wife and the crew were overly friendly and helpful. We enjoyed their company and help very much. The breakfast was very delicious and the atmosphere in the garden very quiet and lovely- a nice hideaway in Penang. The beach. a bus station and a great foodcourt are close by, which make the Baan Talay a good location to stay at. We enjoyed the stay at the Baan Talay very much.

Disliked: The only thing we have to criticize is the cleanliness in our room- the bathroom was dirty when we arrived, but the rest of the hostel was perfectly clean.

Liked: Owners are superb- as helpful as could be. Local food hall was great.

Disliked: Paper thin walls in the annex means you hear everything going on. Beach isn't great, and disappears at high tide. Not much to do in local area- you'll need to take a bus to Georgetown.

Disliked: its a slight trek into town although the bus system is easy once you work it out, but they charge extra for aircon which i thought was a bit cheeky!

Liked: The owners are really nice.It seemed like i was at my own homeThey invited us to join the BBQ and i extremely loved it!!!You can walk down to the beach and it taks only 2 minutes!Just not too near to the ferry station & the airport!Gonna get back there again!

Liked: Very nice place to stay in. A little bit away from the centre of georgetown but we like some peace and quiet. A easy busride takes you to the city. Owners are most friendly and try to help you in every possible way...I would definetely saty again!

Liked: staff are incredable. they took all the travelers out for drink, bring some guiter with little famous presvey, and we had so much fun. Never forget those sweet memories. and when you cooling down by the terrace, you'll hear the ocean marmaring,,,,,

Liked: kd and saracha are really sweet and go out of their way to help you have a great, fuss-free stay.the garden's a great place to chill out both in the mornings for breakfast and at night. plus, it really is a short 2 minute stroll to the beach. while the beach is a fairly limited stretch, it's lovely to hear the waves at night and the birds chirping in the morning. a pretty good food court is another 2 minutes down the road, while a spa is just across the road. a perfect place to stay if you're planning to rent a car/vehicle while in penang.

Liked: Neat place. Owners are really helpfull. The place itself makes you feel like you're home. The garden is very cosy. Around the corner you can find a bus stop, a beach and a hawker centre, if you're not into making your own food. We really enjoyed our stay. Thank you very much Nark.

LOCAL FOOD HALL BEACH BUS STOP AND SWIMMING CLUB ALL WITHIN 1 MINUTES WALK. iTS NOT PARTY CENTRAL BUT A QUITE NIGHTS BED IN A CLEAN ROOM IS MORE IMPORTANT TO ME . THE OWNERS ARE TRAVELLERS THEMSELVES WHO SPEAK PERFECT ENGLISH AND ARE VERY EFFIECENT AND HELPFUL WITH ANY ONWARD ARRANGEMENTS YOU WANT TO MAKE. RECOMENDED FOR MATURE ,COUPLES OR FAMILIES
