Liked: nice courtyard outside. Good location

Disliked: breakfast was only 2 slices of toast and a slice of banana bread & coffee & orange. A bit more variety and real rather than powdered milk would be nice. We got woken up at 6am by multiple door slammings. The doors have automatic shutters on them so that they shut with some force. We guess a family was getting up early as this went on for half an hour or so. Some signs asking people to close their doors gently in the mornings would be nice or get rid of the automatic door closing would help.

Liked: It looks better outside than inside, but still is quite ok. The rooms are clean, there is free wi-fi, the location is wery good.

Disliked: It does not provide a backpacker friendly atmosphere.

Liked: The showers!!! Best in south east Asia so far. Staff were really friendly and hèlpful. The whole guesthouse was really clean with good, fast wifi and Internet.

Disliked: If we were being fussy the bed covers were very small (smaller than a towel!) and breakfast was basic but we were grateful for it to be included anyway!!

Liked: Good location in Georgetown,walking distance to Fort Cornwallis and the old waterfront area,fairly close to Komtar (the shopping centre tower),plus plenty of small restaurants,markets,massage places and shops. Clean and tidy,with a basic but reasonable breakfast included.

Disliked: No complaints really,but WIFI isn't free and is only available downstairs,and the toilet and shower 'block' was right down the other end of the building from our room. No atmosphere at all,but ok to stay for a few nights.

Liked: A lovely building, despite the simple interior design of the rooms. It is in a great location close to Chinatown but not too near other backpacker places thankfully. Staff are very friendly and very helpful generally, this is my second stay here and it is a very good place. Not the Ritz, but excellent value for money all round.

Disliked: The only real problems are the thin walls and inconsiderate humans who sleep within them sometimes, oblivious to the noise they are inflicting on others. Rooms at the front are noisy due to the road which is quite busy. Bring your earplugs and you will be fine.

Liked: Bathroom and rooms really clean, very friendly staff. My friend sprained the feet and was very well treated by the staff, which even ordered food from the neighbour restaurant.

Liked: The building is beautiful, the beds are comfy, the dorm room is air-conditioned, the shared showers are powerful and hot (literally the best shower I've had in 8 months in Asia!) and the breakfast is simple but nice.

Disliked: There is one big down side to the place which isn't its fault - there's some kind of crazy person who seems to stay just round the back of the hotel, who talks to himself all night, and sometimes shouts. If you're in the dorm rooms, he's very loud so bring ear plugs!!

Liked: first i love the atmosphere with the ancient building. Its feels like home. The cleanliness hv no doubt. Really surprised for common bathroom. And the staff very helpfull. When we arrived, there's a man stalking us to the hotel. And thank God the staff noticed wat happend and help us till he didnt get room in Hutton Lodge. Thank u

Liked: Free breakfast; reasonably priced for what was offered; clean; good showers; lockers in room; decent room size

Disliked: Building is nice from outside but disappointing interior; only hostel/hotel on our trip that charged for wifi access; location wasn't too good

Liked: Set in a lovely looking building the rooms were quite spacious, clean and included a small but perfectly acceptable breakfast of toast and banana cake with tea/coffee. It is also in a good location to explore the old town and there are plenty of restuarants nearby for the evening, including vegetarian options. Internet worked fine in the rooms

Disliked: It is set just off a busy road which is noisy no matter where your room is. There are no windows in the bathroom so mosquitoes get in at night.

Liked: The location is very good; within walking distance of the ferry port and the city centre. Rooms were spacious and clean, and on arrival I was given a locker for my valuables, which you don't always get automatically. Breakfast was included in the price and was adequate to start the day. Staff very very helpful and the hostel was very secure.

Liked: We had to cancel our initial booking at this hotel a day before arrival due to getting stuck in Thailand because of floods. The staff were very helpful and agreed to our cancellation without charging our card any further. When we arrived in Penang 3 days later they altered the rooms to ensure we got a twin bedroom for thr previously agreed amount of nights. The hotel was very clean and secure and a 5 minute walk from all attractions in Geirgetown. The communal showers were spotlessly clean and there were enough to go around.
