Liked: Many thanks to the family of Apa Kaba Home&Stay for the warm welcome. The forefather shared with us his high level of local culture, giving us the chance to learn more about Malacca, and that was great! I love so much the garden to savour the fresh handmade breakfast or for a little nap in the middle of the afternoon...The location is perfect, close to city but not in the tourist area, more in a middle of a "kampong", definitly a place to recommend!

Disliked: Customer left no negative feedback.

Liked: Lovely house and garden (which had a nice place to hang out in) with a great atmosphere. Very helpful and friendly staff. Kenny went out of his way to be helpful and even made me tea and mended my broken handbag after some guys on a motorbike tried (and failed, luckily!) to snatch it. The rooms are reasonably basic but have a lot of character and are very clean. The breakfast is amazing!! The best breakfast we've ever had in a hostel - they had the normal toast, jam, butter, tea and coffee but also had a range of different Malay foods to try! Location is good and whilst I can see why some people found it difficult to find, our taxi driver knew exactly where it was.

Disliked: David left no negative feedback.

Liked: Hans and Kenny and other staff were always very friendly and polite. They had great suggestions for restaurants (Amy Heritage) and helped us arrange a taxi and bus tickets back to KL. The room was clean, as were the bathrooms. The shower was hot and had good water pressure. This is quiet and respectful hostel and I would stay here again!

Disliked: nothing.

Liked: It was a very nice and quaint place, the family that owns this place was very friendly and helpful. We were there over Christmas weekend and they held a complimentary Christmas Eve garden dinner for all the guests which was a very pleasant surprise. They have lots of cute pets. Walking distance to everything in town.

Disliked: It was rainy alot so the garden was a little muddy. Mosquitoes were also a problem so we couldn't open our windows. But don't worry, it didn't bother us at all, as it was quite a pleasant stay!

Liked: We certainly enjoyed our time at Apa Kaba. It’s a lovely building, a great location and the hosts were friendly and even provided a free walking tour. I’m not sure if that’s something you can necessarily count on happening if you stay there but it was a great introduction to Melaka. There are a few different options in rooms: Many Fan Share Bathroom Rooms - we had one of these on our first night - lovely old wooden room but no flyscreen on windows to bring mosquito repellent. 1 Private AC ensuite queen bed room which we had on our second night, which was lovely to sleep in - nothing like a blast of air con to keep you restfully sleeping instead of being hot all day and then all night. We received a lovely breakfast on both mornings, first was roti and sauces, second morning was noodles. Each breakfast also had toast and jams, coffee and tea. We created a video for this: http://magictravelblog.com/2011/11/apa-kaba-home-stay-melaka-malaysia-review/

Disliked: The common facilities were ok however. A little worn. They had character.

Liked: This place is great. It's apart of this little village and there is a yard to hangout in. The wifi reaches the outside seats so nice place to hangout. The family there is super nice, the owners dad took us on a 2 hour walking tour through town. The breakfast was more then just bread and speads they also had local dishes there to try. Really recomend it

Disliked: I can see how it would be hard to find the first time, luckily the owner saw us walking down the street so we got picked up and taking there so we didn't have to look

Liked: I really liked how welcoming all of the staff were. The guest house has a lot of character. It is family owned and they treat you like family. They go out of their way to make you feel at home. Also, If you are sick of eating toast for breakfast, stay here. They took the extra effort to serve us chinese roti and other goodies. It was delicious.

Disliked: One of the bathrooms with the sink is getting renovations and the other two do not have sinks. You need to step next door to the kitchen to wash your hands and brush your teeth.

Liked: Easily the best hostel where I have stayed in Malaysia. with a village feeling and location, next to anything you need in Melaka. The owners are more than welcoming, and it is great to have the choice of having traditional foods for breakfast, and not only white "bread" with butter as in most other places. The garden is a great place to relax, specially if you decide to spend more than a couple of days here.

Liked: It is really nice to be able to stay in wooden house once again. the design of the house is about the same as what you will get to see in some old time nyonya drama show. very traditional and well-maintained.

Disliked: a lot of mosquitos!!! it's everywhere, in the room, at the breakfast area, at the garden. i even had to got up at the middle of the night to apply mosquito repellent for my toddler and i. both of us had experience terrible mosquito bites on face, hands and legs, mind you, we actually brought along a portable electrical mosquito killer to use in the bedroom. apa kaba should really do something about it, reduce water retention at the drain, put more mosquito net at windows and doors, install large electrical mosquito killer in rooms and open area, etc. hope this helps.

Liked: The owner and the staff are very friendly, the house is cozy and very close to walk to all major attractions. I really liked that they served Malaysian breakfast, so cool to have something local besides toast and jam.

Disliked: There is no indoor lounge for guests to relax, it's either outside in the garden or in the room. would be nice to have a couch and some chairs somewhere to relax inside the hostel. Very thin walls, you can hear everything and would easily wake up if you're a light sleeper but no major problem.
