Liked: It was clean, the staff were helpful & you did get a beer upon arrival.

Disliked: I didn't enjoy my stay mainly because there were 4 stagg parties that weekend and they spoilt it for the rest of the people staying there. It is a really big hostel which detracted from its atmosphere & meeting other travellers was difficult because the common room/bar was full of drunken idiots on a stagg weekend. They play sports on TV in the bar (mainly soccer/football whatever) and it seriously lacked the kind of atmosphere that I personally enjoy when travelling. If you like getting drunk with the boys & acting up giving tourists/travellers a bad reputation amongst the locals then I would reccommend this place. The staff & facilities were top notch it was just unfortunate that the place was full of idiots. Unfortunately I think this hostel attracts this crowd due to its price & 24hr bar? It really depends on whether you get lucky & have a good bunch of people staying but with 50+ beds the odds aren't in your favour I'm afraid? I'm being harsh but honest.

Liked: Have stayed at Franks on two trips to Riga and have found FFF a great place to stay. Very clean, very comfortable beds.

Disliked: Unfortunately the guy I was travelling with had his bag stolen while at FFF, seemingly from a locked room. The staff were as helpful as they could possibly be, helped us look in every room, and translated into Latvian with the police etc, but can't give anything other than a very bad for security sadly.

Liked: Well, the holiday blues are finally melting away and the drudgery of the daily routine is firmly back in place. As you’ve probably guessed our vacation is over and I must confess we had a great time at Friendly Franks Hostel.Several components blend together to produce a wonderful holiday; the weather, the city, the accommodation, the staff, cleanliness, security and of course fun.While Friendly Franks Hostel can’t influence the weather or city, they can influence the rest of the above, and indeed they did with panache! The staff were all overwhelmingly friendly, the showers, toilets, rooms and communal areas clean, security was paramount and all eight of us holidaymakers had immense fun.Arriving in an unfamiliar land like Latvia can be daunting even for eight well-travelled lads like us. We were thus humbled when it was conveyed to us over our complimentary beer by a beautiful Latvian girl of the activities that Friendly Franks could arrange; paintballing, shooting (hand-guns, AK47’s and Pump-action Shotguns), Bobsleigh and for those more cultured amongst us, walking tours of Riga. Each staff member was courteous even when busy and would even arrange a pizza delivery at 3:00am for us ravenous guys after a few beverages in Riga’s many fine bars and clubs.Many tales circulate on the internet of tourists enduring hiked prices by unscrupulous rascals in drinking venues. Well, Friendly Franks provided each of us with a map of the city and a guide of recommended outlets to quench our thirst and dance the night away without worry about being ripped-off. And for a small fee we arranged for a guide from the hostel (another beautiful Latvian girl) to accompany us around the best bars and clubs on a bar tour which was great fun. Oh and we were also given a tour guide (yet more beautiful Latvian girls) to each of the activities we undertook (the shooting and paintballing) which made us feel comfortable when travelling around Riga and gave us comfort that if a problem did arise she could resolve it swiftly; particularly as our Latvian language skills didn’t even extend to ordering a beer...dear-o-dear!The hostel itself was clean with a cleaner present everyday during our stay. Security was clearly paramount to the management who had employed several security features including surveillance cameras and verifying our identity before being granted access to the building.In summary we had a terrific time. We all had loads of fun and the staff were tremendously helpful and pleasant. Our thanks go to Jeremy and the girls at Friendly Franks Hostel and a fantastic week-end!

Liked: Very well located. Very clean.Big kitchen. Proposed activities are interesting and numerous.

Disliked: Place good for meeting people but people are not always nice in return.

Liked: Only 5-10 mins to stations, near to supermarket, on outskirts of Old Town so good place to start exploring from & very secure. Good kitchen, very clean throughout (seemed to be a constant cleaner even at 9pm).

Disliked: Very impersonal, 'common room' was more just an extension of the 24hr bar so didn't want to go in unless I was drinking. So many formalities with forms to sign - at times seemed more to be a business than somewhere for people to relax & hang out. Only Jeremy gave any tips & was more chilled out. Though when I wanted to go on the Saturday night pub tour, because I don't like beer, was advised to pay 5lts for guide & entry to club but pay for my own drinks - guide didn't give me anything worth me paying & by the time we'd spent an hour at least in each bar, we finally went to the club but I was too tired by that point. If you don't drink beer but want to go on the tour, just pay & tag along is my advice. Football on TV in the bar really isn't something that's going to get everyone involved either.

Liked: They sent an email letting you know everything you needed before you got there, including all the tours available and the best ways to get into town and around. It was really helpful. The kitchen is fabulous - large enough for about 4 people to be cooking at once and plenty of utensils.Even better was the free beer when you check in!

Disliked: dining room is too small, common room is attached to the bar and is not quiet. Would have liked to see something on the tv other than soccer.

Liked: This is the best hostel I've stayed in! Very good value, excellent staff, very friendly welcome and advice, ace location and very handy bar! A group of us booked out a room and we had a great time. Would happily stay there again if I return to Riga at some point.
