Liked: Nice place, very romantic, but the sandy beach is just few meters, other there are rocks, so it is not so suitable for swimming.

Liked: Very cheap. Situated on a beach front and is very relazing. Very good for a romantic couple who just want to be away from a city atmosphere. The place is very laid back with grass roof cottages. It is just the ideal place for a retreat. Staff is very courteous and very helpful. Good food at very reasonable prices.

Disliked: If you are a city person, this is not the place for you.

Liked: The Beach Bar is a nice place to stay on the coast, though it doesn't quite have the white beaches on its doorstep that the pictures let on; the best place to swim is a lagoon adjacent to the hostel. It's a family run place that seems to charge less if you have booked online rather than in person. The beach huts are basic with bedding and nets but no electricity so you will definitely need a torch as trying to get hold of a parafin lamp was a nightmare! In terms of location, it may be that we misread the directions, but when reading that 'any taxi will take you there in 5 minutes' as newcomers to mombasa we thought this implied that it was 5 minutes from town! In fact it we bargained hard to get a taxi to take us on the half hour journey for 800 kenyan shillings (about £7). There are minibuses that run along the main road but getting down the dirt road is either a 20-30 minute walk in the searing heat without shade, a motorbike taxi (which the hostel recommends once you get there, despite the advice given online!) or allegedly a car taxi, though we never came across any. If you want a beachy place wuth a fun atmosphere it is worth the trek, it definitely does have that sort of laid back tropical paradise feel, but might be an idea to take some supplies as the food and drink on offer is quite expensive for a travelling budget.Happy booking!

Liked: The Beach bar & camp has a fantastic atmosphere and the huts you stay in are fantastic value for money. However, the location was very disappointing as there is no beach to speak of! Just a small rocky cove completely covered in thick seaweed, next to a mangrove swamp. This camp is a long way from Mombasa city and a long way from the nice sandy Mombasa beaches (its 10KM from Bamburi) , and is very far from the main road (therefore you cannot take a matatu to a nicer beach). Also, the staff were not helpful (e.g. did not know when low tide was, did not know the cost of a taxi to the city etc...) and we were served chicken that was bloody and raw in the middle for dinner .

Liked: Really nice place, run by a German woman and her Kenyan husband. Funky little huts and treehouses, bar, good food etc. Beach is private and secluded but a bit rocky. I booked on here for early June but the place is CLOSED IN JUNE AND EARLY JULY. That was hostelbookers fault. The place couldn't do enough to accommodate me as I was the only one there!

Disliked: Customer left no negative feedback.
