Liked: Very helpful owner and staff. I had a private room which was clean and comfortable if somewhat basic.

Disliked: Very poor breakfast, no real facilities, but main drawback is that it is a twenty minute walk up a STEEP hill from Petra. Having said that, all of the cheaper hostels are in the same area and it is at least convenient for most of the restaurants and the fantastic bakery. Oh, and the loudspeakers from the mosque immediately behind the hostel WILL wake you up at 4 or 5 o'clock in the morning! Good if you want to make an early start.....

Liked: Leah was really helpful, the staff was always friendly, honest, and ready to help. Rooms are very clean.

Disliked: Rooms are quite small.

Liked: kindness of staff

Disliked: room was very dirty, bathroom as well. Both shower and sink were falling apart. I don't really understand their ranking.

Liked: Incredibly helpful staff. They gave us free lunch and coffee upon arrival and then gave us lifts in their car down to the gate of Petra itself and wouldn't take any tips for this (30 min walk). They organised our tickets for Petra by night and arranged a packed lunch which saved us a fortune. They then booked us a great value tour in Wadi Rum for no charge and also tried to link tourists staying there up with each other so they could all have cheaper taxis to others destinations. We would highly recommend this hostel. Best value hostel we stayed in in Jordan - deserves its number 1 position

Liked: hostel was clean, staffs are really nice.

Disliked: taxi driver who is from hostel to amman, he is not good. However he is not hostel's staff. just hostel's staff arranged for us.

Liked: Very clean, everything in good order and the food was good. They provided us with plenty of useful local knowledge, e.g. price of water, taxi fares, etc. Best of all, they have a deck which give an amazing view over the mountains of Petra!

Liked: we liked the view from the roof terrace, especially during sun set.

Disliked: The wc was in the shower and everything got wet when having a shower. Also the water was not consistently warm, sometimes even cold. At night the room turned very cold but there are good blankets to keep you warm.

Liked: Owner and the staff were extremely helpful, we arrived and I needed to speak to variousl people in Aqaba to confirmation onward travel arrangements, as well as sorting taxis to Petra and they sorted it without any problems. Location is good, not far from Petra, a couple of miles away. Facilities were good, hot shower and decent sized rooms. Evening buffet meal was excellent. I would definately recommend this hostel.

Liked: Very helpful staff that also saved us a lot of money by organising our trip into Wadi Rum.

Liked: There are no words to describe the helpfulness, hospitality, generosity and collaborative spirit of the Leah Nassar and the gang at Petra Gate Hotel. They went above and beyond to help us get around Jordan and make our trip totally unique and memorable. And, when my cousin lost his camera, they went out of their way to contact pretty much everyone they knew in the city who could help us in any way or who might have seen or found the camera. They even negotiated to get him into Petra for free a second day just to look around for his camera (admission normally costs 75 dollars!!). Also, we mentioned a typical Jordanian dish that we wanted to try, and they said "No problem, we'll make it for you!"

Disliked: The bathroom/room situation was not perfect, but the staff was SO wonderful that our experience there was nothing but extremely positive.

Liked: It was located close enough to be a reasonably short walk to Petra but far enough so as not to be amongst all the tourist shops. Just down the road are three pretty tasty and reasonably cheap kebab cafes. We had the double ensuite room which was fully secured.

Disliked: The bed and pillows were hard (but that seems to be commonplace throughout Jordan), a mosque is located just behind the hotel which has a very loud "call to prayer" at 4:30am & 5am every day (but if you're like us and plan to hit Petra when the gate opens at 6am than you couldn't get a better morning wake up call than the mosque). The toilet and hand basins were poorly mounted and if you have long legs you'll find it very difficult to actually sit on the toilet. There was no hot water. If you don't have high standards than this place is fine for a night or two.

Liked: Hospitality, friendly staff. Manager always available and willing to help.

Disliked: The room facilities are a bit old. bathroom not very functional. If you think to stay all day in the room or the hotel, this is not the place for you but if you want a nice welcoming place when you come back from a long walking day at Petra site, this is defenetly one of the best places around.

Liked: nice location, clean room,nice & friendly staff and very helpful (he help us arrange the bus to AMMAN to pick us up in front of the hotel)

Disliked: My bathroom is ok (double bed) but in my friend's room is very small (sigle bed). Shower is not in good quality (water spread around). There is only one plug in the room and need to be fixed, Breakfast is not included and if u wanna pay with credit card they except only visa card with some charge (i dont remember how much coz i decided to pay with cash at the end)

Liked: I've stayed in many hostels throughout the middle east. Petra Gate was a really great experience. The rooms were clean, sheets were fresh, TP and clean towel come standard, and there was a nice breeze through the windows on second or third floor. The staff are very personable and enjoy to get to know their guests. They arranged free rides from the hostel to the gate of Petra, and also helped organize trips to Wadi Rum. Breakfast was good and plentiful, though not included. JD 2 probably. Overall great value.
