Stephan WonczakA great hostel I can recommend to everyone. You have a choice of western style rooms and japanese rooms (book beforehand), which makes the experience even better. The only (very small!) criticism I have to make is that you do not have space to really unpack your luggage, you have to more or less live out of your suitcase (or backpack, as the case may be). Anyhow, Oak Hotel will be my primary choice for my next visit to Tokyo! |

Jamie MiddletonThe Oak Hotel provides a good base for exploring the East side of Tokyo; specifically Ueno Park and the surrounding museums. However, it is at the opposite side of the city to the 'happening' parts of Tokyo (Shinjuku, Shibuya & Harajuku) and thus requires 20 minute train journeys for genuine Tokyoite nightlife (might not seem long, but you'll want to minimise the time you're packed in like a sardine!; and the trains stop dead at 12, no matter where you are), but it is close to Akihabara, Ryoguku and the world famous fish market which is very handy. The Ueno station is close by and provides access to the Yamanote Line (get used to travelling on it) which is the circular line which runs through the major parts of the city. As for the interior of the hotel, the rooms are clean and comfortable and of adequate in size (which is good in Tokyo), while the bathrooms are units which can barely fit a fully grown male in (again, this is common in Tokyo and should not put you off, just be aware)! For those with laptops ask at the front desk and they'll give you a modem to use in your room (the arial is next to the TV, at least it was in my Japanese style room) which means you get a steady and stable internet connection. It is a hotel and there is no big community area so it is not the best place to meet fellow travellers. The staff spoke English and were friendly, but Tokyo is so easy to navigate, even for someone who speaks no Japanese and reads no Kanji, that I never had to ask for directions. However, that being said, the hotel itself is quite tricky to find - the landscape is so dense that its hard to initially spot the FedEx when exiting the station - just bare left and you should spot FedEx, then just follow the instructions (basically straight on past the FedEx and look out for the sign after the subway station). All-in-all i would recommend it as a based for seeing the East side of Tokyo. |

Customer reviewIt is an incredible bargain and definitely worth staying at. It's quiet, clean, and comfortable with each single tatami room with it's own bathroom. Less than half a block to the nearest metro station and the rest of Tokyo and Japan. Easy to get to and the staff is very helpful. Definitely will stay there next time in Tokyo. |

Customer reviewI was very pleased with my stay at OAK hotel. I had my own private room and bathroom. It was very Close to Ueno station. If you are looking for something that will give you more privacy than a hostel this place is it. |

Customer reviewI am not really good to explain very well, but i will try to do it : - I found its location near the park of Ueno and the station which permit to directely go to Narita Airport very convenient. The hotel is not on the main road, so the rooms are very quiet. - Thank to a magnetic card we can go back to the room at any time we want. - There are many computers to connect to internet, one which skype for thoose who like to use it, so it is rare to have to wait to acceed to computer. - Room and hotel in general are really clean at the atmosphere of the hotel vivid. Personnal bathroom and toilet even if a little small is really pleasant. |

Shaun OsburnFree internet access for laptop users, free use of hotel computers, close to train lines, good location, friendly staff, unique environment. This was an excellent place for the money -- the rooms are SMALL compared to western standards -- but still a good size. I will def. stay there again during my next trip to Tokyo. |
