Liked: Very clean, well equiped and good location 5 mins from the station and the historic part of Takayama. The staff were helpful and there were lots of useful advice and suggestions of things to do. I especialliy liked the futon style bunk beds which gave you lots of space and privacy.

Disliked: For me it a little too quiet and lacked atmosphere a little, although it was probably because the hostel was only partly full as it was the depths of winter. Also the wifi wasn't very reliable.

Liked: Excellent staff, very kind and helpfull! Only a 7min walk from JR Takayama station. Very clean bathrooms and toilets. Good comfy beds with nice sheets! Don't search any further, BOOK!!

Liked: Everything! Very informative, very clean, amazing staff, good location (very close to the station). It was my second time here and I'll probably be back again!

Liked: Great hostel. Really good location, friendly staff who are very helpful. They even had a gyoza party while I was there. The beds are comfy and spacious, and there are big curtains around them, so you have privacy. The rooms are also quite spacious, which is really nice. Great location, easy to get to everywhere, and close to the station. Lots of information about things to do.

Liked: Free internet, free body soap and shampoo, cheap towel hire. Helpful staff. Curtains on beds was a great thing.

Liked: We loved this hostel. The room was in traditional Japanese style with really comfy futons. The whole hostel is spotlessly clean, lovely kitchen and great laundry service. The staff are so helpful - nothing is too much trouble. The location is spot on - 5 minutes walk from the train and bus station.

Disliked: Nothing - it is great!

Liked: Great staff who gives good advise on day journeys/activities in the area. Stayed in a private room which was very cozy and clean; truely sincere japaneses style. In general good and clean facilities and a very well equipped kitchen. They even have a beer vending machine!!! Highly recommendable!

Disliked: That we could'nt stay longer.

Liked: Very clean and room is pretty spacious. Liked that they had curtains for the beds, so there's still some privacy.

Disliked: Hot water shower not is merely room temperature. Not a big common area.

Liked: Price and location. They also had a lot of activities, tours and hikes available. Good kitchen space. And staff was great.

Disliked: Sometimes the toilets had a funny smell and the only floor with showers is the ground showers.

Liked: J-Hoppers Takayama is a great hostel, spotlessly clean, really friendly staff (who answered our endless questions on how to get to local spots outside Takayama in the middle of winter - and always with a smile!), free wifi in the rooms, free kitchen to use, and much more. As from the comments from other users, the showers are only available on the ground floor which can be a bit of a hike from the 4th floor down the stairs, but really a minor issue. We loved our stay there and Takayama is a great town with plenty to see and do in the area.

Liked: It had a pretty good common room. Better than J-hoppers in Hiroshima. Also staff were a good source of knowledge for travelling in Japan in general.
