Welcome to Ryokan Meiryu, a small inn located in the center of the city in Central Japan.

Our place is situated in Nagoya, the biggest city in "Chubu"(midland) area, the 4th largest in Japan. Even though you haven't heard of this city, you definitely know the city's largest company; "Toyota," comes from here! People say Nagoya is an industrial city, but the museums can be unique – and often relate to craftsmanship such as pottery, textiles, and automobiles. Not typically traditional but you may pick up something that made Japan one of the most industrialized country on earth.

Also Nagoya is the gateway to some of the rural areas in Japan. There are numerous areas attracting tourists; Ise, Takayama for example. Nagoya makes a good stop-over to avoid having a day-long tiring maneuver. Some people even manage one-day excursions there, making the most of their Japan rail pass!

All our rooms are fully equipped for air-conditioning and TV (sorry not satellite.) You can relax in our Japanese style "Tatami" room!

Bathrooms are available for 24 hours, and furthermore between 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. you can enjoy our sauna bath (sadly only in gents' bathroom - sorry, ladies!) You don't have to worry about shampoo, body soap, hair-dryer, ‘Yukata’ (Japanese traditional PJ's), towel, toothbrush etc. as we offer all of them free for you! To clean your clothes, we have washing machines and dryers (JPY200 for washing, JPY100-200 for drying, soap is free.)

We cater Japanese style meals; either breakfast or dinner. Dinner costs JPY2310 for each and breakfast, JPY630 for each (tax included in both.)

We have vending machines for cigarettes, beers and soft drinks. If you need light snacks, the closest 7/11 is around 5 minutes walk and opens for 24/7.

We have an Internet facility between 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. to check your e-mails during your journey. Fax or copy machine services are available at the front desk with just a small cost.

The check-in time is from 3pm, and the check-out time is 10am. If your check-in is late at night (after 9 p.m.,) please contact us!

Accommodation Information

The room is Japanese style; tatami floor and futon that means you MUST take of your shoes in the room. Principle rule here is no shoes on tatami floor.

A set of towels (bath towel + face towel), toothpaste & brush, uptake (Japanese PJ's) are provided in the rooms, and body soap, shampoos, soaps, hair driers are provided in the bathrooms.

TV sets are provided but not satellite, sorry.

LAN is equipped in the room, that is, you can bring a laptop with you and plug your cable however, this is NOT WIFI, so please do bring your own LAN cable if you can. Though we have several spares of them but the number is pretty limited.

We also have a computer (Windows XP Pro) for guests use but HDD is protected and any uploaded files are automatically erased, so please do bring your USB memory or portable HDD if you need to use this computer and save your files.

Location Information

We are in the centre of the city in a large sense. To be precise, we are in the southern area of the city centre, called KAMIMAEZU. Though we are not in the very city centre, the area is quite quiet in the nighttime but enough safe to go out.

Even if you are not a tough walker, the city centre is within a walking distance. 15 mins at most to reach the centre. Also we are within 5 mins from OSU ARCADE, one of the popular areas in Nagoya. So you could visit OSU first then city centre in the same direction!

MOREOVER, if you are planning to head for suburban areas like INUYAMA (e.g. INUYAMA castle) or TOYOTA (e.g. TOYOTA factory tour), KAMIMAEZU is the best place to be. You could go and visit these areas from KAMIMAEZU and you do not have to change trains on the way!
