Liked: The hostel is in a GREAT location- easy to access from Kyoto train station and very convenient to get to many temples, the Gion district, and the downtown/shopping areas.

Liked: Great location! Staff was helpful and the rooms were clean.

Disliked: I think it would help their business if they updated decor etc but that's not really necessary as things were clean and efficient.

Liked: the security lock of the hostel gate made me feel safe. The water of the shower room was strong enough,made me feel refreshing after bath.

Liked: And after a long time I felt again the feeling of warm hostel life. all guests having dinner together on the table discussing their day. However the place might seem a bit dodgy for some, because it's an actual house, being used as hostel, with no actual staff and hostel facilities like lockers, bar, etc.

Disliked: no lockers, security box or anything to leave valuable stuff. The 8 bed dorm is quite improvised..some beds are actually a closet being reconverted!

Liked: good location close to Gion and Kiyomizu temple. and there are train station and bus station by only 5 mins walk. free computer, wifi, coffee and tea. room is clean and comfortable.

Liked: Close to Kiyomizu-dera temple. Close to bus stop / subway station. Friendly staff and atmosphere, and felt relaxed.

Disliked: Facilities were a bit cramped and shabby compared to other hostels, but not dirty.

Disliked: Noisy washing machine or plumbing from 3rd floor not sure which one but ear plugs did the trick. Was pretty unphased by it.

Liked: Very homely place, even had a japanese BBQ cooked for us! Free umbrellas too.

Liked: The location was good - close to Gion and not far from public transport. Free wifi was good.

Disliked: It could do with a good clean. The shared bathrooms and showers were dirty and so was the kitchen. The futon and bedding was very thin and old. There was hardly any space to sit and relax - only the kitchen table.

Disliked: it's really difficult to locate this hostel. Suggest to have a bigger signboard display outside of the entrance will be helpful to new comers.

Liked: Free Internet, nice and friendly Japanese dinner. Japanese room was ok, not too small.

Disliked: No real check-in, no real check-out... It's more like staying with roomates.. Which is good for a nice evening but not so good when you have questions or you want to pay...

Liked: very nice, helpfull and friendly staff (thanks again Rika ;) )...you can easy to meet people from evrywhere in the world... I had more the feeling to stay in a friend's home rather than a hostel... in a word, the best place I have ever stayed !

Disliked: that I had to leave... I would have liked to stay longer !

Liked: price and location were good, staff was friendly.

Disliked: I dont know about the other rooms but dont take the mountain view room. There was nothing in the room but the futons we slept on (if you can call that a futon, it was old and very thin, felt the floor like there was nothing in between). You had to go outside on the rooftop to get there and the door didnt look properly. Ive been to many hostels troughout Japan and this is the first one i cannot recommend. Too bad since price and location were not bad at all.

Liked: Sakura Peace house hostel is located on a charming little side street in Gojozaka. Nearby are all the needed amenities such as the supermarket, Higashiyama post office, and Kiyomizu Gojo subway station and numerous bus routes. Gion, the bustling old quarter, is only 15mins walk away while Kyoto main station is no more than 10 minutes by bus (no.206 bus or no.100 bus) The hostel houses a clean and useable kitchen with cooker, fridge and plenty of space to prepare your dinner or breakfast. Our private room was tidy, clean and designed in a traditional Japanese style with futon beds and a small balcony. The shared Showers and toilet were always in the best of upkeep and again house everything that is needed. Yumi (the owner) was always very reachable by email and very accommodating to all our requirements. Rika who looked after us at the Kyoto branch of Peace house hostel was always on hand to aid us with all the guidance we needed when planning our daily trips to the temples and districts; all in all a great place to stay when visiting one of the world’s great cities. If Kyoto is known as the peaceful city in comparison to its Tokyo cousin, then Peace House Hostel should be regarded by all as the easy going house; full of homely charm and as vibrant as it is welcoming.

Liked: The staff and other guests were all extremely nice and helpful. The location was decent, and the price was perfect. I would absolutely stay again when I return to Kyoto.
