Liked: Very comfortable dorms, I slept great every night. The common area is comfortable. The guy working there is great, very relaxed and helpful. Great place to stay at a great price for Japan

Liked: The location is great. Just a couple of minutes from Gion, Shijo-dori and the heart of Kyoto. For Kyoto, and especially this location, it's an amazing price. The staff is very friendly and helpful.

Disliked: It's an old-ish house converted to a hostel, and unless you turn the heating on in advance, you're going to feel cold. The room I had was OK for heating, but in the lounge it gets very chilly. It can get noisy without anybody really trying. It's just because the house is older and made of wood. Expect a lot of loud stomping from the stairs and noise from the clunky wooden dorm room doors. The lounge/kitchen area is too small for how many guests the hostel can accommodate. The couches are very old and uncomfortable too, which is annoying if you want to meet people there. The shower area is too small for the 3 showers on offer, and so you get much less privacy than you might want.

Liked: Excellent location, right in Gion. Cheap. Guy running the hostel was nice and helpful.

Disliked: There are no lockers in the room. There are lockers but they cost 100 yen and I only found out after I asked. Only one set of showers on the first floor. No hot water in the hostel except the showers. The other guests were not sociable, but that can depend on who happens to be there when you are.

Liked: It has potential to be a great hostel!

Disliked: There were no staff around! I had to wait 5 hours to check in, thereby loosing 1/2 a day out of my 2 day stay in Kyoto. There was no-one to ask for any tips or help regarding sightseeing or getting around. Other people that I spoke to at the hostel were also very unhappy about this. The times of the staffing are convenient only to the staff (that is the one person I met) and not at all for the guests.

Disliked: people dont lock the dorm,better with a key code i think, didnt see karaoke room as offered and didnt take my credit card.

Liked: I arrived at the hostel at about 7am, way to early for an open reception. I was let in by another guest and welcomed with some coffee. I was then able to dump my bag down and go into central Kyoto. The other guests were great fun and I felt really at home. The location is also perfect and I got a really good nights sleep. I would stay here again.

Disliked: Nothing.

Liked: Room (for 4 of us) was spacious and comfortable. Awesome rooftop to sit in the evening. Big plus> washing machine and dryer inside hostel. Staff was very helpful and nice.

Disliked: Smelly pillows.

Liked: The staff was really helpfull and friendly. Full of tips and advice and fun to have a few drinks with. Hostel was clean overall and all the facilities were there. I used the teenie weenie kitchen all the time and the communal rooms are great for meeting fellow travelers. I would highly recommend this hostel to all who visit Kyoto. Good location and great price, really can't beat it.

Liked: The staff were SUPER friendly and helpful. Also, it was really close to Kiyomizudera temple - which is my favorite place in Kyoto. Gion seems like a pretty good location for a hostel. Also, our dorm was spacious.

Disliked: The showers room was a little inconvenient. You have to take your stuff into the shower with you and put it on a shelf, or leave it outside the door where others can see.

Liked: The hostel rooms were nice and clean and had good feeling to them as well as the staff there. The location was perfect for sightseeing. You could rent bikes from the nearby shop. A pleasing experience.

Liked: Good place to meet people

Disliked: Staff were unfriendly, didnt seem interested in sastifying our needs. Towels and lockers incurred extra costs despite being listed as free. No free snacks or newspaper as listed. Bathroom facilities were limited (showers and sinks only on the ground floor). Hostel is based over two buildings 5 minutes walk away from each other which is not stated on their advertisement. Really bad odour in the dorm. We had to ask for sheets. Their excuse was that they cost alot to wash but that they do vacuum the under sheet so we shouldnt worry!!! No lifts in the second building. Kitchen facilities limited, only 4 cups. DONT STAY HERE

Disliked: Really really bad smell in dorm rooms, smells like rotting veg.

Liked: Not too hard to get to & clean. Upstairs gets quite at 11 but the party keeps going upstairs so you can sleep or party to your heart's content.

Disliked: You have to pay for lockers & it's a little out of the way for most sights but it's near a subway station.
