Liked: This hostel had the most comfortable beds of all the ones I slept in in Japan. The room was in japanese style with with western comfort levels i.e. big padded mattresses

Disliked: I was technically on the 'wrong' side of the tracks from a lot of the sights but if you don't mind a walk (and I don't) then within about 30 mins you could be in the main parts of town.

Liked: The lounge/kitchen area has good facilities. The staff are lovely and we met loads of other travellers from near and far.

Liked: The front desk was very very helpful. She let me use their phone to try and make an intl call...when it didnt go through...she didnt charge me. Also, she helped me book a JR bus ticket bc I didnt have a cell to use in Japan. There are many many fun pictures of guests decorating all the walls. The common room seemed very well-equipped and nice. I also met very nice travelers in my room. The close proximity to JR station is great.

Disliked: Internet costs 100yen for 30 min.

Liked: It was a good, business-style hostel.

Disliked: Very much like a business, no personal-feel to it. The location was inconvenient, but not so burdensome.

Liked: It was very close to everything in America Mura and really super cute and quiet. People were very friendly and approachable. Masa is extremely helpful and nice!

Liked: It was close to the shinkasen (bullet train) station. Price was good. The down side is that most of tourist sites are on opposite side of Kyoto station -- have to take bus , walk or bike.

Liked: The hostel provides above average facilities, relatively close proximity to Kyoto station - important starting point for access to different places, and has a cosy, casual environment which makes you feel more welcomed

Liked: Staff were very helpful and the kitchen was very good however there was only 3 showers for the whole of the hostel which meant there were queues most of the time in the morning.

Liked: The only issue is the long climb up five stories. Otherwise, the facilities were superior. They even had CNN and BBC. None of the other Japanese hostels I stayed in had English channels. There was free coffee and tea including loose Japanese tea and ground coffee. It was close to the train station and eating places were close as well.
