The hotel is just 10 minutes walk from the JR station and you can easily reach, on foot or by tramway, every interesting spot in Hakodate. The room was a nice (and big, for the japanese standard!) twin room.

The location is not too far from JR station, so I can walk for about 10 minutes following the tram railway. From this hotel I can reach Goryokaku Park, Harbour, and Morning Market easy. The hotel is clean, nice staff and the important thing is, there is one of staff can talk in English. They preparing nice yukata. But I don't try the food. Bath room is small but is OK. There is a bath tub with hot water too. I enjoy stay at Maruyasu hostel. Maybe if you have small budget, but you want a good stay, try this hostel.

Large twin room, prime-nonfirewalled-250kB/s Down Internet via wifi AP per floor although not mentioned in description, small refridgerator, nice and cool outside, numerous outlets in room with a table as well. Tea packets and a double-walled thermos of hot water are provided in the room, and the thermos keeps the water hot for about seven hours.
However, there is really nothing to do and nowhere to go in Hakodate, besides the Goryokaku which is very muddy. Hakodate is about three hours to anything worthwhile by the fastest trains. The station looks big and pretty but its probably the only facility in the entire town that looks like a million bucks. If you walk around you'll notice the mysterious quietness and emptiness of suburban Hokkaido. By 10PM you'll feel like the last person on Earth.

By Japanese standards for roominess, this room was awesome! We had one room with three twin beds as well as a tatami room that could accomodate up to four futons. There was a common room as well as a private bath. My family was very well taken care of and we enjoyed our stay!
