Clean, large rooms, comfortable beds--it was like staying in a hotel room.

Good location, in a more quiet but nonetheless central area of Venice so it is only a 10 minute walk to san marco but the area is not swarming with tourists at night.

great location and good breakfast, staff were really nice and helpful... bathroom was big and clean but the room itself was a little shabby and not quite as nice as the picture and the aircon wasn't working... area was great and we felt safe walking back there and was easy to find from the centre... fine for 2 nights stay

This hostel is well located. However, the room was not that attractive, with small windows and was not nice. The breakfast was served on the hotel that manage this property, which was good. We went everywhere by foot, without having to take the boat to visit the most important places. This place has the front door always open, which does not inspire much safety for the ones that stay there.

Great place! Good breakfast, quiet surroundings and a nice room and bathroom. The staff (at Hotel Belle Arti across the street where you check in and have breakfast) was very kind and helpful. This hotel is quite a find for the money, but it would be a lot easier for foreigners to find the place, if they were to give you the address 'Rio Terà Foscarini 896', rather then 'Dorsoduro 896'!

Clean, quiet, and away from the really touristy parts, but close enough to the night life. Really fantastic. and air-conditioning! Not to mention the complimentary breakfast buffet...

The best value for me is that the B&B is just 5 minutes by boat from St. Mark's Square, and 10 minutes walking. After having walked for 10 hours around the center of Venice, I just took a boat ride home, rested for an hour in bed, then went out again to continue touring until late evening! This is a major plus, because if I had taken a tour package, most tours would have hotels outside of Venice.

I travelled alone to Venice so i made sure the neighborhood in which i'm going to stay would be safe and nice. I found out Dorsoduro area was well recommended, and from hostelbookers' list, Holiday House Domus Cavanis was located in this area. From the user reviews I already knew that this hostel was run by a real hotel across the street - Hotel Belle Arti, and that some users even got upgraded to a room in the hotel itself for the same price. So I booked a private single room, and luckily enough when I arrived they gave me the room in hotel belle arti! What a lucky day! I found the room cozy, comfortable, clean, and beautiful. Loved it! It looked similar to the photos they show here, only with a different-colored wallpaper (textile). But I'm guessing the room's basically the same with the private single room in Domus Cavanis. The staff was nice. Breakfast was good, and the lobby, reception hall and garden was so inviting. I think even guests of Domus Cavanis can stay there since you still check-in and eat breakfast at hotel belle arti anyway :) It is located really close to the Accademia bridge and water bus stop Accademia, where I just ride line 1 or 2 to get around Venice. And is also very near to Zattere, a nice and relaxing place to take a stroll. Overall I had a lovely stay and i recommend this place to everyone. The possibility of a room upgrade is really a plus :)

We spent a night here in July 2009 without any regrets. The room was similar to many older European hotels without many ammenities, but it did have working A/C and television. The best part of this hotel is its location. Its centrally located along the Grand Canal near the Academia, so anyone with luggage only has a 1-2 minute walk maximum from the 'Water Bus' stop to the hotel. While nothing extravegant, I'd recommend this hotel to others visiting Venice.

I guess we got lucky. Room 202 is a large two bedroom, and they have A/C in there. Bathrooms were clean and spacious in our ensuite. The location is just outside the academia stop. Dorsoduro is the neighborhood, not the street. It's located. On Rio Tera Antonio Foscanni. Look across the street from Hotel Bell arte. No security at the front of the place and the simplicity of the keys make it look like an easy door to pick. Elevator doesn't work either. No internet either. Great place to just drop off your bags, see Venice for a day or two and take off.

The place is run by the hotel across the the street. It is basic but good, the beds in room 104 were very good and we had breakfast in the big hotel with the fancy people. It is basic, but good value for Venice money. We recomend it.

well this wasn´t actually a typical hostel, it´s a 2nd part of the hotel from across the street so this also felt like one. we had a double and that sure was nice and the breakfast is great. the staff is maybe bit more keen on serving the people in the actual hotel, but there was friendly faces too. missing the access to internet ( well, they have a wlan, but you need your own computer)

The staff were not very helpful. they continued charging the weekend rate although I went on a week day. I felt a little cheated by the location. They say that it's walking distance from some square. But Venice is really not that big. So almost everywhere is within walking distance. Howver, the room I had was pretty nice. Although it was really small, the wallpaper was quite pretty. And i liked having breakfast at the hotel next door

While its located far from the train station, it is close to the boat stop Accademia and the ferry service to the Airport is right next to it.
