Margarita BoydAs two travel journalists we have had the advantageous situation of travelling a lot. Our current article is based on southern Europe and after a month of travelling in varying types of accommodation in many different countries, we were very much looking forward to a bit of luxury in the lovely Venezia. Villa Dori does not disappoint in that. Upon arrival, after 48 hours of travelling from Africa, a robbery and a night in the airport we were the typical exhausted and weary traveller. Never in my entire life have we ever come across such an attitude that we encountered from the young lady at the reception desk when we arrived. She questioned us about our booking, requiring proof of 2 emails that I had previously sent modifying the room size in two weeks advance, both which were unresponded to. She then proceeded to shout in italian and we stood there in disbelief. Her attitude was disgusting and as a representative of Villa Dori she really tainted our stay there and painted a terribly unprofessional image of the hotel. We were so angry and shocked at her behaviour towards us and everytime something was required of her, such as the shuttle service, we were given the attitude that it was such an inconvenience to her and that we were a burden, simply by using the facilities available to us. I felt it necessary to publicise this as its an informative tool to other travellers and the hotel itself. The young man on reception however was fantastic! Exceedingly efficient, he was one of the most informative and helpful people we have encountered on our travels. His knowledge of the city and cultural sights as well as transport costs and entry fees was remarkable. He was a great aide to us and a credit to the hotel, and we genuinely thank him for all his advice and insider tips. Is the fact you're compromising on location for luxury mean your stay at Villa Dori is economically viable? We like to explore the city at night, and the hotels location meant we could use their shuttle service home, which is advantageous in the sense that you have the security of a lift directly to the hotel but they charge €25 for the privilege. This over 2 nights meant we had spent €50 on coming home, even though it was only midnight, therefore, we could have used that for a more expensive hotel in the centre of Venice and saved on travel fees. The hotel is clean with good facilities, rooms far too close together, you are awoken by the people in the room beside you and can hear every word. Beautifully finished, classy upholstery. Luxurious rooms, we loved them and were very satisfied with the actual accommodation provided. They charge you an extortionate amount to use the internet €3 per hour, which in comparison to most hotels which provide free wireless is very expensive. Breakfast is €7 and we wouldn't say it was worth it, you could get something by the canals for the same price. So Villa Dori if perfect, if you have a car, can put up with the occasional poor service from reception staff but appreciate quality accommodation. Margarita Boyd and Victoria Jackson- Hernández |

Customer reviewThe receptionist on duty was exceptionally helpful. He brought out a map and showed us how to get around, marked items of interest and good places to go. He talked for about 20 minutes. |

Customer reviewThis place is outside of venice but they have shuttle service everyday multiple times a day so you can go into venice anytime and come back anytime just let the staff know they come pick you up. |

Customer reviewWe booked a room for five persons with a shared bathroom but got three connected rooms for seven persons all in all and a bathroom that we had to ourselves. The hotel is not far from other towns or the center of Venice but the landscape and surroundings weren't that great. On the floor below somebody felt disturbed by us talking and complained, so the walls seem to be very thin. |

Customer reviewHotel Venice Villa Dori was a lovely place to stay, just outside of the centre of Venice. The staff were extremely helpful - providing information in the form of email even before we stayed at the Hotel and on arrival a getting to and from guide via. public transport that helped a lot. The email gave excellent travel information for to and from the Hotel to Venice, general information about the cheapest ways to see the sights of Venice and truly experience it! The only negative was the sporadic air conditioner we had in our room and the overtly expensive internet in the foyer. As the only option, it was a must, yet 3 euro for half an hour, in my opinion, was a rip off. I would certainly recommend this Hotel to other travelers. |

Customer reviewEverything was ok, room was clean and air conditioned. Only next time I would not use their shuttle going to Venice center. I would better buy 12 hours public ticket (16 EUR) and would use public transport. Of course everything is ok with the shuttle, but it cost 2.50 EUR for one way. So it's better to buy 12 hours ticket and then you'll be able all buses and waterbuses. One way ticket for waterbus costs 6.50 EUR. Next time I would probably stay in this hotel. |

Megan GriffithsNice hotel but quite far out on Venice- bad directions on the website also. If you are willing to travel and want to see Italian life out of the centre of town then it is a good place to stay! |

Customer reviewDisappointing. Cheaper than city hotels but a way out of the city, even with the shuttle (which you have to book and there are only 3 in the morning and 3 at night). Room looked like it was only half repainted several years ago. Shower looked cool (with 'body jets' etc) but the water pressure was so low it was a waste and there was scarcely enough flow to wash your hair. Towels are just cotton, sheet-like material. Clearly needs some renovation. Breakfast was good but €7, had to be paid cash even tho reception said it could be paid with card with them. Having said all that the guy on reception was friendly and gave helpful advice about where to go and the water buses etc. |

SONALI SANASVenice Villa Dori is a truly wonderful hotel. The staff is genuinely helpful, friendly and pleasant...just what you need in a foreign country. The interiors are tastefully done and the rooms are comfortable. The location is far out, but the hotel has a great shuttle service . |
