Liked: Nice camping, good environment for young people. Good value for money. It is placed out of the city but public transport was not so bad as some tourists write, we knew we were not going to stay in the center so we expected the distance.
Disliked: It was very cold in the tent through the night. Buses were overcrowded, in peak-time (evenings) when all the tourists were coming back to campus it was almost impossible to get on the bus. Once we had to wait for another bus, but it was also full.

Liked: Good party atmosphere and bus stop right outside that only takes ten mins to metro station. Nice bar area although prices dont change in their 'happy hour'.
Disliked: Our toilet leaked water all over the bathroom for the 3 nights we were there even though we had reported it. Staff (cleaner) were very rude to us for no reason. No kitchen facilities to cook own food and the restaurent food is bad quality for not great prices. We were 2 booked into a tiny chalet which also had a 3rd 'flap down' bed above our heads, they booked a stranger into that bed which seemed inappropriate for such a tiny place with no facitlities to lock our stuff away. We didnt have that problem in the Venice Camping Jolly.

Liked: You really do get a good "bang for your buck." Although the tent set-up is not luxurious, the super clean and accessible bathroom facilities were a huge part of our experience. It was fairly easy to get into the city center (if not a little long), so we toured all day and came back to the site to crash before another long day of touring.
Disliked: Location was less than ideal : we were far from city center, but we also felt a little unsafe walking across the footbridge that leads to the property because it was completely unlit. To add to this : finding the hostel was a little bit of a process, especially because we were arriving late at night.

Liked: this was the cleanest and best organised campsite I have ever stayed in. Accomodation was very clean and all the facilities were not only perfectly clean, but perfect in every way. They have thought of everything, from the well stocked supermarket, to the excellent restaurant and bar, to the shuttle bus into Rome and even scales to weigh your luggage! Friendly and helpfull staff. The best organised facilities, services and accomodation. Thank you. I am planning to stay again.

Liked: Quite spacious and green. Good property if you have own/rented vehicle.
Disliked: Too far off from the city and there are only 2 buses that takes you to nearest metro with low frequency. They should at least provide schedules for these buses so that guests do not have to wait at the bus stand for long.

Liked: I will do a mini-review of the hostel and of Rome as a city. I travel a lot, but this was my first visit to Italy. The ratings are for the hostel only. HOSTEL PROS Staff - Almost all staff on site were incredibly helpful and friendly, and sorted out a change in rooms for us despite being busy. Rooms - Tents are cheap but sturdy and clean, with basic beds and lighting. Bungalows are much more comfortable, with cupboards, air con, toilet and shower. WC/Shower Block - There are two blocks, with private cubicles and very clean facilities. Transport - There is a bus stop directly outside, with frequent buses to Metro stations. The airport shuttle is comfortable and not overpriced, and costs much less than a taxi. Tip: The buses don't tell you the stop names, so keep an eye out for the red M signs for metro stations. Wi-Fi - Free codes are handed out everywhere. There is better coverage in the tents than bungalows. While it does cut out, it connects well enough for normal use. On-Site Facilities - There's a well-stocked supermarket, a reasonably priced restaurant, a pool with snacks, a computer and luggage room, a launderette, and a nice bar. There's a microwave and kettle in the supermarket, but only for food bought there. Tip: If you need a drink, ask nicely at the bar for free cups of water. They also have plastic cutlery. ROME PROS History/Culture - The Roman history is very interesting, and the Colosseum and Forum aren't the only places to visit. There are places of interest spread all across the city, including fountains, museums and castles. Tip: Under 25 and from the EU? Keep your passport with you, as you get a discount at the Colosseum, Vatican and some castles. Food - The pasta, pizza and ice cream are (mostly) amazing. Tip: There is an excellent gelateria called Blue Ice, not far from Spagna/the Spanish Steps. When facing the steps, walk to your right and continue down the road, passing three zebra crossings. Blue Ice is on the right side, and they serve lots of delicious flavours including soya ice creams. Transport - The Metro is fast, comfortable and efficient. Buses are frequent and comfortable, but much slower. Tickets are reasonably priced too. Tip: Avoid travelling at rush hour if possible, as the crowds will push you and most likely pickpocket you. When travelling, take a zipped bag which you can see at all times and don't wear backpacks.
Disliked: HOSTEL CONS Refrigerators - There are none. It isn't possible to store cold food overnight; a week without milk was strange. It's also annoying not having any way of heating food bought off-site. Tip: The supermarket across the road has some cheap cold food and drink, including (limited) sandwiches and small bottles of milk. Location - Yes, it is quite far from the city centre. Allow an hour to get the bus and Metro, although it usually takes less time. However, the transport is so easy to use, I didn't find it a problem. More concerning is that there is nothing but a supermarket anywhere near the campsite, so it's a bit isolated. Computers: The computer room was terrible. The only languages are Italian or Dutch, some don't have basic programs like MSN, and I found other small problems on top. The computers are slow, but not as slow as the internet. I tried to book a train ticket, which should have taken me 5-10 minutes, but I couldn't complete the booking in a whole hour. 3 Euros for an hour of that internet was a waste of time, it's better to stick with the wi-fi. ROME CONS Attitudes - I was very disappointed with the people of Rome. Other customers were rude and interrupted, and sellers were pushy and went to extreme lengths to con people. Once you look at a menu, a waiter will practically force you to sit down and place an order. Some waiters said we couldn't share a pizza, but others at the same restaurant allowed it. Be wary of stalls with no set prices where the owner will pretend to haggle. Also stay away from the dressed-up Roman soldiers; they will take a photo of you, then try to charge ridiculous money. Overall, the people did not seem like the classy fashionistas I expected, but more like smarmy con-men who are only out to steal your money. Tip: At a restaurant, they may bring you a bread basket and charge you, so if you don't want it say so right away. When buying from stalls, always check your change, as one man intentionally short-changed me and it was definitely not the first time he'd done it. Don't be afraid to question your change, and never feel pressured into buying things. Crime: The city is not a safe place to be. While I never felt physically threatened, pickpocketing is a regular occurrence and I met several people who had purses and laptops stolen. Also be wary of car thefts, break-ins and con-men. Prices: Everything is expensive. Look around for varying prices between shops and restaurants, but even the best deals are asking a lot. Be prepared to pay a lot for food, drink and souvenirs. The only thing which isn't overpriced is entry to attractions. Tip: It can be hard to find a cheap snack during the day, but Pizza Roma past Barberini station (towards the Trevi Fountain) and the takeaway by the bus stop (247 returning to campsite) near Cipro station are a couple of places which do mediocre, but cheap, lunch-style food.

Liked: We stayed in a bungalow and it was great to have A/C at such a hot time and also our own bathroom. The on-site facilities were good too - bar, restaurant, shop, swimming pool and a supermarket right across the street. The shuttle bus to the Vatican was a real help.
Disliked: It was so difficult to get to this campsite and this would be the main thing that would put us off staying again. Also, the wi-fi signal was very intermittent which could be annoying.

Liked: If you are planning on seeing Rome and spending every day there, stay somewhere closer! But for us we came to camping roma after 5 nights in the city centre and it was perfect. Great atmosphere and a nice place to chill out and get over the hectic nature of Rome. So it really just depends what you want out of your time in Rome, just be prepared for at least an hour to get into the city, or in our case when the metro was out, nearly 2 hours.

Liked: Camping Jolly is excellent value for money, its a little haven after a long day in Rome. There are two heated pools and two jacuzzi's although one was a little cold and plently or deck chairs to relax on. Its the perfect place to relax only problem is theres so much to see in Rome its hard to use the pool etc. We had a private bungalow which is very cute and best thing is there is air con, which is a god send on the hot nights and keeps the mosquitos away! We arrived later in the night so there where no problems with checking in. There is also a massive supermarket across the road, which is perfect for people who are looking to save money on buying their own food etc. The supermarket across the road is a little cheaper than the on camp market also. Overall I would definaltly stay here again maybe for longer so i have chance to relax by the pool for a few hours. The information available is really good they have info on what to see in rome and what excursions are available and they also give you a pretty good map of rome to work off!
Disliked: There was no fridge in the bungalows, we stayed in the Camping Jolly in Venice and they had a fridge, and they where exactly the same bungalows so not quite sure as to why Rome camp jolly doesnt offer one. The bungalows have a tendency to shake when the next door neighbours walk around and the bathrooms are right next to each other so you can hear when the neighbours flush or use the shower.

Liked: Camping Roma had a great atmosphere and lots of good hang out areas. The public buses into town are very easy, they also have a shuttle bus to town for 2 euros return! The bathrooms are very clean with lots of showers and toilets. Free wifi! Overall a good place to stay!
Disliked: The pool is very dirty and falling apart. The wifi only works half the time. There is no electrical plug ins in the tents.
