Liked: There is a great atmosphere, people staying there seemed very friendly and keen to hang out. The bar is really nice and the staff are extremely helpful.

Disliked: The set up in the dorm rooms isn't great. There are no individual lights, so when you get into the room at night you're either waking everyone up or trying to get organised in the dark. Also, for an 8 bed dorm there were only 4 lockers which was a little complicated trying to sort out.

Liked: Actually have a working kitchen. Not the norm in Europe. Which is sad. Nice outdoor courtyard. The staff is helpful and friendly. Especially the guys during the day. Rooms were good sized. met some good travelers.

Disliked: Bathrooms were dirty and bad odor. Location is a walk away from main town. Most times, there were more locals at night than travels. They are nice but take over the bar area. Its more of a gathering place for bartenders friends.

Disliked: had difficulty finding it first, make sure to know how to get there before arriving (metro is easy)

Liked: First, the fact that is was near the Historical Center and not long from the sea as well. Then, that the staff was really friendly and helpful :D - I made friends there and espacially one (she knows who she is). Also, it was clean and balacing the facilities and the servicies offered definetly is was above the money payed.

Disliked: Nothing in particular.

Liked: It was near a beautiful church in a nice (but somewhat inconvenient for walking) location. The staff were very friendly and the facilities were extremely comfortable. And it was cheap!

Disliked: It was a bit out of the way of the main sites in the city (although it was nice to stay in a less touristy location).

Liked: The hostel saff were more than helpful and especially Alexanderio, I had problem with my flight and he really went all the way to help me work it out .. of all the hostels i stayed at i can really say this one of the most helpful staff

Disliked: nothing, except you have to walk for 10/15 mins to downtown

Liked: I thought La Controra was an excellent hostel in general. The location was great - a two-minute walk from the nearest metro stop (Salvator Rosa, Line 1) and a 10-minute walk down to the Centro Storico. There was also a bus stop right outside the hostel. The area felt safe and secure, and there were little convenience stores a 5-10 min walk downhill from the hostel, and a small supermarket about 10 mins uphill from the hostel. The beds were comfortable and I had many a quiet, peaceful nights' sleep! The kitchen was excellent and had everything I needed - one of the best and cleanest hostel kitchens I've seen around.

Disliked: There was only hot water for the first few minutes in the showers but most of the time it was enough for me. I thought the bathrooms were the weakest point of this hostel really; although by no means bad they could be a bit more convenient (shower in bigger bathroom had awful doors/difficult to get into and out of without slipping)! They were always clean though. I didn't like the look of the top bunks in most of the rooms as I felt I'd easily fall off them (in reality I probably wouldn't have). The rooms facing the street were very noisy in the mornings because of traffic so bring earplugs if you want to sleep past 6.30 am. There aren't too many sockets in the rooms so charging your phone/laptop was a bit of a problem at times.

Liked: Really nice atmosphere, even in mid November which isn't the busiest of times. It's easy to find, the staff are friendly and really helpful with whatever you need, and breakfast is free! Also the location by a very atmospheric old church is great, and Piazza Mannzini down the street does excellent pizza. Make sure you talk to Joseph the owner!

Disliked: Not a dislike as such, but it's not a kind of "get off the intercity train, here is your hostel." You have to take the metro but it's very easy.

Liked: The location was very close to the metro station. The breakfast was really a nice touch and everybody seemed to have liked it. Also, the rooms were clean, and the staff was nice and helpful in answering all questions.

Liked: This hostel was brilliant, really clean esspecially the bedding, everything in the rooms seemed brand new and the staff were so so helpful, really enjoyed my stay, the facilities were really good, they have a nice kitchen with a big fridge that you can leave anything you buy in, the area was really safe and the staff have loads of recommendations if you need a good resturant or supermarket... its also not a far walk from the historical center, the staff gave me a free map and gave me directions for everywhere I wanted to go !

Disliked: it does take a while to get to the hostel from the main train station, it is not really a problem but if you are wanting to use the hostel as a base while exploring the surrounding area like Pompeii and Sorrento, it does take a bit of time. Im not sure if this is such a bad thing though as the area near the station in Naples is not very safe and quite dodgy.

Liked: It was brilliant. I actually stayed an extra night, and there was free breakfast, the rooms were really big and spacious, there was a garden area for guests to use, the common room was comfortable and the staff were super friendly, I loved it.

Disliked: Internet is only in the common room, which I didn't mind since the common room was quite comfy. Not very many plug sockets, only one in a six bed dorm which was a bit awkward, but there were more in the common room.

Liked: The receptionists were very helpful and friendly! There is common kitchen with all stuff, so cooking dinner it's not a problem:) Rooms are clean, breakfest ok and city center it's not so far.

Disliked: We didn't have lockers. The padlock to them was extra-pay.

Liked: Nice people, great kitchen, good breakfast. Good common areas. Clean rooms and clean bathrooms.

Disliked: Showers not always hot and also a dribble. Bar closed at this time of year but not mentioned on their page.

Liked: The directions from the station are excellent, really very easy to follow (the prices are outdated, however, tickets are slightly more expensive than they have advertised). The location is convenient, along metro line one which takes you close to most major sites. Staff are friendly and helpful, rooms are clean and we felt very safe and welcome. Breakfast isn't anything special (cereals and toast) but it is convenient and satisfying. The wi-fi was convenient although there was only one computer in the common room (another was broken) so if you need to get onto the internet you should bring some kind of wi-fi enabled device on which to do this.

Disliked: On our floor there were two female bathrooms which added to a total 3 toilets and 2 showers. One men's bathroom with 3 toilets and 4 showers. Someone didn't use their common sense when it came to this layout. This wasn't too much of a problem on our stay, but due to the tiny bathroom and cubicle sizes (at least in the women's) bathing is a cramped experience with a feeling of very little privacy (no locks on either shower door, one is like saloon doors and the other frosted glass) A final issue with the bathrooms is that they are poorly ventilated and get quite musty and smelly. Noise from the nearby roads also passed into some of the rooms quite loudly, due to its location near a main road, however it is a fairly minor issue. If you are a light sleeper I'd recommend earplugs. Light sleepers should also be aware that when one person on either level of the bunk bed moves, the other one can feel it. None of these were a big deal but worth mentioning nonetheless.

Liked: This hostel doesn't skimp on the communal spaces - the bar, lounge, kitchen and courtyard are huge (and appealing). The place feels more like a resort, which is a nice change. The dorms are pleasant and spacious. There was free pasta when you ordered a drink at the bar.

Disliked: I didn't appreciate paying to use the hostel computers given they were so slow. In the dorms there is a lot of noise from the street. When I visited the stovetop wasn't working.. there was only one electric hotplate for a large hostel. Strangely, there is no kettle or hot water boiler. The staff were nice enough but not terribly informed about travel around Naples or Italy generally. Laundry is expensive.

Liked: A nice garden at the bar, and the bar included a pasta when you bought something to drink. Helpful staff. Nice rooms with a lamp at every bed. A lot of toilets and showers.

Disliked: Not wifi in the rooms, only down in the common area. The bar didn't accept credit card.
