Liked: It is very close to the Amalfi center. Actually Atrani is around 200meters from Amalfi. The hotels in the Amalfi are very expensive and the quality isn't too good too. This Scalinatella Hotel is perhaps the one of the most economic way to stay there. The men who are managing this hostel are VERY nice and that is actually very important. They are helpful and relaxed. They let us stay in 90 euro room with the bathroom while we payed 58 euro for room without a bathroom. So they are very kind. The continental breakfast is also very good for this type of modest breakfast. But hostel itself is not very clean neither new. And honestly I thing it is the standard in Amalfi... So it is a good deal overall!

Liked: The two brothers who run this place are so helpful and friendly. The location is stunning. The restaurants close by offer really cheap drinks and good food. Our favourite place on our trip. The rooms are clean.

Liked: The price was good considering that Amalfi is a very touristy place. Filippo was super friendly, and everything we needed was either in the tiny piazza downstairs or a 5 min. walk to Amalfi. Bathrooms were a little bit small, but I'm not complaining. Breakfast was nice, too.

Liked: It is the only place in Atrani...but good all the same. And if you're thinkiing of staying in Amallfi, don't. Stay at this little place in Atrani. Just a short walk around the corner and much more chilled.

Liked: Atrani is a good place to live. People are nice and helpful, but I thought it would be more like an B&B kind of place. Even if you have a private room, you will hear the noise, conversation and see the light of everyone because the walls are thin and not complete (to the celling)! Plus, they are really small, with our luggage, we coudln't be all 3 in the room at the same time; unlease we were in bed.The restroom are actually the shower, so it smeels humidity everywhere. Sometimes, the reception is empty (cause only the manager works there) with the door open (with all the room keys hanging). And there are no locker in the room, so you better lock your things! Just in case. There are a lot of stairs and they are thin, so don't bring a big luggage (I did and it was difficult)Otherwise, the breakfast is good and the town is small and friendly. 5 minutes walk to Amalfi. Lots of nice restaurant, but no place if you want to hang out by night.

Liked: Great location, the square is really good for meeting people from the hostel at our ;local Louigi's. Very basic but cheapest in the area. Bed's are a bit dodgey but not a bad breakfast

Liked: About the only redeeming feature about this place was the inclusive breakfast. I think the proprietors must feel guilty about the prices and general hovel-like nature of their rooms. I shared a tiny windowless, and therefore very dark, room (about 7 feet by 7) with another guy. We paid 25 euros per night each for this - and at mid to low season too. I asked after the first night to change to a windowed room but was told that non were available apart from singles starting at 50 euros a night!!!!! Apparently having a window in this place is a luxury worthy of hotel prices. Bed linen was clean though just about everythng else did not look like it had been cleaned in a long time. The place was generally in need of repair and refurbishment. The lack of natural light thoughout the place was compensated for by ghastly strip lighting of the seediest and most depressing kind.Hwever the location was great - 5 mins walk from Amalfi. I would sout around before staying here - it is vastly overpriced for the very poor standard of accomodation.

Liked: The two brothers who run Scalinatella, Filippo and Gabriele, were very friendly and welcoming. The breakfast was yummy and the beach close by was clean and safe. The walk to Amalfi (5- 10 minutes) was full of gorgeous sea views. It was very hard to leave after our three days...the location was sooo beautiful.

Liked: Character; the brothers who run the hostel are the most genuinely friendly people I've encountered in a hostel so far and will go out of their way to help you and make you feel welcomed. Also, everyone in the town of Atrani knows each other and the hostel owners, I literally felt like I was part of the town for 3 days.Location; perfect-a 5-10 min. walk to Amalfi where the port is located. From there you can get to Capri by boat (40 min) and all other destinations on the Amalfi Coast (Positano, Sorrento, Ravello, Salerno, etc...)Cleanliness; showers wern't perfect, but I wasn't too worried, they give you linens for your bed when you arrive and the beds were very clean as well as the dorm.Safety; while there were no lockboxes, I felt completely at ease with my belongings at the hostel. The people I roomed with were quite friendly, but if you are worried about it, then I would consider taking some precautions.Meeting people; perfect place to meet travelers, you can meet people at breakfast every morning, or in the main piazza where everyone in town hangs out-Amalfi and Atrani are very small towns, so you'll be seeing a lot of each other.Value for money; great value, price includes breakfast, linens, map, great info. and is less expensive (and crowded) then Amalfi, Capri, Sorrento, or Positano.

Liked: The 2 brothers owning the hostel were really friendly and helpful and also gave us an upgrade on our room for no reason other than being nice! Breakfast was amazing and at no extra charge!Was good being based in Atrani as less commercialised than Amalfi and Positano!
