Liked: Absolutely excellent! Clean, well-organized, quiet, respectful and interesting fellow guests, and one of the best views in the world.

Disliked: No complaints. Well, you could tell people how to turn the hot water on for the showers, in case we don't know, but that's not a complaint, just a suggestion!

Liked: Location is excellent and you get what you pay for. It is not a palace but the atmosphere is good. I would definitely recommend it if you are looking for the hostel life.

Disliked: Our room was a little tired and the towels more so. Both could do with a lease of life.

Disliked: The place is small, so the dorms on first floor are quite expose to noise because of people passing.

Liked: Very good location, very old but it fits the atmosphere of the old city. Good place to meet people.

Disliked: Too many people sleeping in the corridors, roof and depending on the room you get, it is tooooo hot (in the summer, of course...)

City break

26 September 2010 Customer would recommend this property

Liked: The location is great, close to the entrance of the Old City but far enough from any potential danger areas. We stayed in one of the private rooms which had an individual bathroom. The staff are very friendly, speak perfect English, and are more than willing to help you find any information you need.

Disliked: The room was kind of dumpy, and the bed was rather uncomfortable. For the amount of money which we paid (around $70 a night for 2 people), I would have expected a little better quality. Also, the breakfast options in the old city are very limited, so the fact that this hostel doesn't have any kind of breakfast, or even a coffee machine, is a limiting factor.

Liked: The location could not have been better, right in the centre of the old city, close to bus and taxi services, restaurants and bars, and a really friendly and welcoming atmosphere.

Disliked: There appeared to be a slight problem with biting ants which was a minor annoyance, and it's not the place to go if you want to sleep in as you are woken each morning by church bells and the call to prayre

Liked: the location was central in the old city and a few of the workers were nice and friendly

Disliked: The rooms were really dirty, the sheets were old, stained and had someone elses hair on them. There are also random cats that wander around the hostel and they pee on peoples bags and clothes. The first thing we saw there was a pile of cat crap in the shower. We also stayed in a dorm and the rooms didn't lock and there was no air conditioning or windows so it got way to hot.

Liked: it is right in the Old town

Disliked: we paid for a private double room, the size of the room was all right, but it looked like before reconstruction. There was fungus on the floor. parts of the walls and floor were falling apart, mirror that I could not see myself in at all, the pillow bag was not clean as well as the bed cover...

Liked: Good location, friendly staff.

Disliked: Their tiny dorms get very hot in the summer and they are also very crowded. When the dorm is full (which is very likely as there are many people checking in and out), you have no place to put your stuff as all the floor is taken by the backpacks or suitcases. Stray cats get through the roof to your room too. Showers are tiny and have only cold water.

Liked: The location is absolutely unbeatable, the staff are friendly, the communal areas are nicely laid out and comfy, the view from the roof is incredible, there are two kitchens and several showers and toilets (I was never left waiting to use a facility), all in all a great place to stay

Disliked: could have been a bit cleaner in some places, like the downstairs kitchen

Liked: Staff friendly, "atmosphere", location

Disliked: If you wish to stay in a place where: 1. You will be the last one to shut your eyes (late into the evening) and the first one to have them open, early in the morning (noise) 2. The mattress and the pillow smell like a dead camel 3. You enjoy temperatures of 45 degrees+, no air Then, this is your place. Good luck. I wish the owner of this place would sleep there from time to time. It would probably dawn on him to invest in a few things. “Hostel” does not need to mean “falling to pieces”.

Liked: the place was clean, the guy at the reception was friendly, ready to help.

Disliked: Avoid room 8 at all cost, unless you want to be the last to go to sleep and the first to wake up. It is noisy (despite the fact that guests were quite moderate in their night discussions), mattresses and cushions smell like a dead camel, and it is damn hot in the summer as the windows shutters cannot be kept open. There must be a rule in the hospitality industry that says that the hotel manager should sleep in his property from time to time, not just his guests. He / she would then know what needs to be fixed. And by the way, inexpensive places do not need to suffer from the above as many counter examples exists, including in Jerusalem.

Liked: location

Disliked: big disappointment, this place getting worse; no free tea and coffee any more; no hot water (I've tried several times, at different hours, I've stayed 4 nights there) lower rooms have no windows, higher have windows but only fan (no air con); this is cave with no ventilation, terribly hot, it's hard to sleep there; there is only one and small kitchen (just one table, maximum 4-5 people), and eating is allowed only in the kitchen and on the roof (this option is impossible, so many people sleeping there); towel and linen - yes, were free, but towels were terribly dirty (I've NEVER seen so dirty towels), we didn't use them, bed sheet also torn and not to clean; walls of the room (double) terribly dirty, probably fungus on the wall; this place is getting neglected, really needs renovations; maybe good for people with no money (sleeping on the roof is cheap) but only for them;
