Corcreggan Mill Hostel now called "THE CARRIAGE" is located in County Donegal, between the towns of Dunfanaghy and Falcarragh, in the far north-western corner of Ireland. It is easily accessible both by air and road. The main N56 road runs past the Hostel!
THE CARRIAGE is a unique hostelling experience!
The Magic of the RAILWAY CARRIAGE continues to attract, families, the budget traveller and the curious, it is recognized as one the most enchanting hostels in Ireland by the guide books, Lonely Planet, ("OUR PICK" 2008 edition). Lets Go, (special commendation 2008) . Rough Guide and Routard.
It consists of five snug bedrooms, two doubles, and three 4-bunk bedrooms. The beds are hand-made from old railway sleepers, they are solid and very comfortable. All compartments, have WHB and central heating. There is a cozy sitting room. dining room and kitchen decorated and equipped in a traditional style. The Carriage also has three showers and a utility room.
‘Corcreggan Mill is set in what was once an important pre-Celtic site, said to be the energy centre for the whole northwest of Ireland. Some 175, recorded, archaeological sites, 7 golden sandy beaches, Horn Head sea-cliffs, and one of Ireland’s two remaining indigenous forests at Ards forest park are just a few of the great locations within an 8km radius. The historic Doe Castle, ancient seat of the Mac Sweeney Chiefs of Doe, beautifully situated on an inlet of Sheephaven Bay is also within striking distance. Don’t forget of course, the many traditional live music pubs nearby.
It is an inspiring place for, amongst others; anglers, artists, birdwatchers, bookworms, charlatans,cyclists, divers, etymologists, fanatics, geologists, hedonists, music-lovers, poets, photographers, surfers, writers and walkers.
