Liked: they where so friendly and gave us great information and tips for our stay. The rooms were clean and tidy. They organised a sunrise boat tip which was very private and hassle free. Other boats had tourists packed onto them and were getting hassled by boating hawkers. We did not and it was a good price. Free wifi ! You have to go to the Brown Bread Bakery which is near by. I would stay here again !

Liked: Location was ok. Room was nice enough.

Disliked: The guy kept trying to promote his taxi service to the airport which was 4 time the price of a rickshaw on the street. He wasn't that helpful at all. The place is hard to find.

Liked: Loved this place! Monu rocks the tabla, and both he and his family are all helpful and friendly! Tons of character in this charming place, a lovely rooftop to chill out on and watch the monkeys hanging out, and a great location, right by the ghats in the Old City! Highly recommend this place, and if I'm in Varanasi again, this is where I'd try to stay! Great optional services, including learning to play the tabla from Monu. =D

Disliked: It's a bit small, which means that if you book this place and don't come, the family business feels the impact.

Liked: The owners were lovely and happy tohelp. and honest as far as we could tell. The suggested good clean restaurants and good directions. I would recommend it.

Disliked: The ONLY thing was that the floors in the room were very very dirty. They were swept well but not washed, sothe bathroom floor would kind of turn slightly muddy after a shower.

Liked: Staff very helpful and friendly and you can sit and talk with them and drink chai and they will make recommendations for you. Hostel is in a good location but it is a little hard to find initially. Owner himself admitted they do not change bed sheets each time so you have to ask for them to change it- mine smelt like it had never been changed. The communal toilet is a squat, not a western toilet as advertised. You get what you paid for and there are many places of similar price in the area if you are not happy with it.

Liked: The rooms here are basic but comfortable and the family running it are absolutely lovely and very helpful. Our bed was rather hard, even by asian standards but otherwise the room was fine. The hostel would benefit from some kind of common area for guests to relax and socialise in, maybe the rooftop which they dont seem to be using for anything. Anyway the location is good, in a quiet area but close to good cafes and restraunts. The place is a little hard to find though, could do with some more signs around the streets. I would stay here again anyway.

Liked: where to start?!after travelling in India for a while, i had gotten pretty used to hotels trying to rip me off or the staff to be fairly nonplus about me...but Monu's was amazing!!!i was supposed to only stay one night and then move to a bigger hotel, but after the first night i decided to stay the entire week there!Location - in the ally ways of Varanasi, minutes away from the main Ghat (where the town comes to meditate, pray, clean clothes, eat, gossip, play cricket and just about anything else) the Brown Bread Bakery is a minute away at most, land of tasty and cheap fresh food (and they give a percentage of profits to local charities) make sure to try to the Tropical Iceberg! (iced chocolate coffee milkshake type thing for 50Rs (60p!)Staff - run by Monu, his father and mother; one of them is always sat downstairs, and they are all lovely. Always making sure you're happy, fed, sleeping well, need water and just nice. Gave me complete independence unlike some other hotels who try to take over as your tour advisor, but gave any advice that i asked for. Monu is such a nice guy and speaks perfect english which is always nice when you want a chat, sitting and talking with them when getting back caps off a great night in Varanasi.Room - i had room 13, which was a beautiful double with cushions on the floor, a big fan, window that overlooks the ally to check out the cow action, a nice big bathroom with a cold (and hot if needs be) shower that i think i could have marriedVaranasi itself is beautiful and a great place to relax, and staying with Monu just helped finish off an amazing trip in India that has definately given me the desire to come back again and again!thank you monu!!!
