About Jose Farms Homestay

Cochin (Kochi), the queen of the Arabian Sea, is the commercial, economic, cultural and religious hub of Kerala and it is situated almost at midway between Kasargod and Kanya Kumari (Cape Comorin). Blessed with a natural harbour that is hewn out of the estuary of river Periyar in 1341 A.D, Kochi is well connected with the major rivers of Kerala through the Vembanad Lake. It has a rich maritime history dating back to the ancient times as the centre of spice trade.

Spices shipped from the ancient port of Muziris (Kodungalloor or Cranganoore) which was about 40km (kilometres) from Kochi found their way into the court of King Solomon, and it was this Jewish connection that brought St.Thomas, the disciple of Jesus to Kodungalloor in 52 A.D. When Jerusalem was totally destroyed by Vespasian in 73 A.D there was a Jewish migration en masse to Kochi and its surrounding areas. These Jewish settlers were well treated by the rulers of Kochi, and Judaism followed by Christianity struck their roots here. Cochin is known as the cradle of Christianity in India, tracing its origin to St. Thomas, the apostle and patron saint of India.

Cochin is strategically located on the major sea routes linking Europe, North Africa and Middle East with India, Far East and Oceania. It is an ideal place to start with your Kerala tour, since it is centrally located and is well connected with other tourist destinations in Kerala.

The home-stay is a three storied purple coloured building. The ground floor is occupied by the host family; that includes the host, Joseph Mathew, his wife Elsie, and son Mathew. The first and second floors have eight rooms and two spacious halls.

Accommodation Information

Accommodation is provided in Deluxe and Standard single, double, triple and 4 bed rooms. There is also a common dining hall with attached kitchen adjacent to the home-stay. Our guests are requested to use this facility for taking food products - including those brought from outside - to prevent ants and other insects from creeping into their rooms and beds, thus making their stay very uncomfortable. All rooms are mosquito proofed and are constructed in such a way to provide cross-flow air circulation. If needed, additional mosquito nets shall be provided.

All rooms have attached bathrooms with closets, showers, hot/cold water, dressing mirrors and wardrobes. The rooms are well equipped with single/double cots, writing tables and chairs and cable TVs. Air conditioning is provided in deluxe rooms and common internet facility is available in the office that is adjacent to the home-stay.
