We are in a quiet "cul-de-sac" village (Kiskassa) of one street only, sitting on a hillside, with nice vistas all round, surrounded by tame chains of hills from every side.
(Look out for the little plaque in the front wall of our house, No 71, with even littler 3 sunflowers on it, ring the bell!)
Pécs, the quaintly beautiful provincial capital of the county Baranya (and of European Culture in 2010), is 20km (ca 14miles) via good and quiet roads. It's a lively university town catering to every taste from opera to clubbing, with lots of nice cafes and good restaurants.
We are on the Villány-Siklós wine-route; local wines are famous and the best ones are red.
Villány is cca 10km away, and is a small town of vine-cellars offering set vine tasting as well as a wide selection of your choice, with traditional snack or authentic gulyás, not to mention the strudels with their marvelous fillings.
Siklós has a medieval castle in good condition as well as a mosque from the times when Hungary was occupied by the Turks. A few miles from here is Harkány, which is a spa-town, with hot thermal waters rich in all sorts of minerals, including sulphur, but has large pools if you rather swim than soak.
We are also on the way to the Croatian coast, which is 5-6 hours drive away.
We tend to have travelers, who are fatigued from all the beautiful but busy and noisy cities and tourist places, and want to have a rest, watch the goats eating grass with their playfully daft kids, and maybe try fresh milk and other local produce, such as honey, sausages. Have a walk to neighboring villages or into the countryside, hoping to discover the wildlife with a nice variety of butterflies, lizards, birds, deer, etc. We are an English-Hungarian early-retired couple, with lots of information, and happy to make sure you have a good time here - do your own thing, or take part in the frequent village happenings, such as dances, Easter egg-search, Anne-day fare...
