Liked: Very friendly Simon. Clean and the bed was good too. Good location. Good value. 10 Minutes to Star Ferry pier.

Disliked: When you arrive just ignore people offering you things. Secod lift after entrance into Chunking Mansion. Then you see the hostel writen on the list beside the lift entranne. Go to 5th floor.

Liked: Imaculate room, Simon never sleeps he is always busy keeping the place clean!

Disliked: The entrance to Chung King Mansions can be a little intimidating, a bit like being persude by paparazzi!

Liked: Best Location, Value, Staff & Cleanliness I have ever experienced. Out of dozens of hostels I've stayed at, Simon's is the cleanest and most centrally located. Within an honest 5 minute's walk of the metro, ferry, airport bus, museums, waterfront, avenue of stars, tons of restaurants. Chungking Mansions is quite the experience, but if you are okay turning down a couple of offers for SIM cards and "copy watches and bags" on your walk in than you can enjoy a fun and incredibly multicultural experience. The best curry in the mansion? Butt Food Center. Back right corner of the ground floor. Security and cameras everywhere in the building. There are some hash dealers hanging around, but they are funny and just casually make you a verbal offer if you look up for it. The best currency exchanges are right inside the front door. Hostel and room access through electronic keycard, VERY SECURE, VERY SAFE! Simon is the best guy you will meet, ever, period. So friendly, so helpful, so honest and fun to chat with, he is right there 24/7 for anything you need. The WIFI is strong and fast, the room has EVERYTHING (phone, hair dryer, clock, tv, dvd player, fan, ac, some rooms have a window and fridge). Simon also provides a DVD library, common fridge, books and a hot/cold drinking water station. He keeps the rooms shining. Every nook and cranny is scrubbed spotless. He even changes your towels DAILY. STAY HERE. This is a hotel in every sense, just at the price of a hostel.

Disliked: This isn't a bad thing, but there is no common area. During peak hours you may have to wait for an elevator, the lift can hold only about 5 people and can take upwards of 5 minutes to make it all the way up or down. Two tips on this: 1. Take the stairs down every time, and up when you have the energy or when the line is long. The stairs aren't pretty but they are well lit and safe. We went up and down dozens of times over the week and didn't see anything, except a black cat and lots of other smart tourists getting some cardio and skipping the long lines for the lift ;) 2. The two lifts go to every other floor. If the other line is shorter, take that lift to the 6th floor and walk down a flight. Bingo. You are very welcome. ;)

Liked: This Hostel is very clean, fantastic location and Simon who runs it is very helpful and very friendly.

Disliked: The room smelt a bit of curry, but you got used to it. Simon is the hardest working man alive, but this does mean he puts his washing on late at night and you can here it spinning, woke me up twice around 1pm.

Liked: Room was inexpensive and good. Near major mtr line easy to get around hong kong. Free wifi and power adapters. Room is safe.

Disliked: Elevator has long wait and is small. Many people trying to sell you stuff on the ground floor of the building.

Liked: Great value for the money. Great location. Simon is very safety conscious and spent the time to show me personally all the security cameras, the emergency exits/stairs, and so forth. Walking distance of attractions like the Star Ferry. Close to the airline express bus stop. Super convenient!

Disliked: The elevator is too small, so that a long line gathers at times, but that isn't really under the control of the property. My advice is that you should pack light and be fit enough to use the stairs, which is a rule that serves me well in most budget hostels or guesthouses around the world. This guesthouse is on the fifth floor, which would be considered to be the sixth floor for Americans, so it is not too much climbing/stair-stepping if you are fit and have the right shoes.

Liked: Simon was very accomodating. Very very clean. Valueables left in room werent lost. Location-perfect

Disliked: The mansion itself. Im sorry to say that a quality hostel does not belong to a ghetto place like Chungking Mansions. Dont want to sound racist but the people in the hallway and downstairs look dirty and smell dirty.

Liked: I agree with most other people here. This place is really recommended for those who want a hotel vith an excellent location. My room was small but very clean. It was cleaned every day and sheets changed every two days (never seen that in a Gesthouse). Simon thinks of everything: adapters for your electrical appliances, towels, shower gel, soap, TV, CD player, internet connection in the room. It is true that the building is quite old and that the elevators are hopelessly slow. This is also true that the area is frequented by people who offers goods and services not always legal (tailors -> hashish), but I've never felt insecure). The hotel is located on the 5th floor. The lower floors are occupied by shops and restaurants not always very attractive (especially when you see the state of the staircase). Despite these small problems, I recommend this place.

Liked: Our room was cleaned everyday and the owner Simon was really friendly and helpful, great hostel!

Disliked: The room was slightly smaller than I expected but understandable in Hong Kong and there was sufficient storage for our bags.

Liked: 1 - Simon 2 - Hot & Cold filtered water for guests 3 - Location 4 - Cleanliness, you could eat off the floors!! 5 - proximity to great Indian restaurants & electronic shopping right in the building

Disliked: The elevator is small & slow so we took the stairs which were decidedly not as clean as the Hostel.

Liked: The Manager Mr. Simon is very accommodating. Location is very accessible in terms of transportation, Shopping, sightseeing, food trip. If you need value for money, go to this guest house. The room as well as the comfort room is well maintain. Very clean. Everything you need is there. Safety of your belongings is fine. Aircon and electric fans seems new. I got no problem while staying in this place. Securities are visible.

Disliked: I arrived on a Sunday dawn time. At first, I was worried when I arrived the place because of many by standers sitting near the entrance and looks mysterious for me. Maybe I was just culture shocked. But this first impression was gone as we went down mid-morning on that day, because all the shops at the lower ground floor were open and many people and guest are coming in and out of ChongKing Mansion. The only downside is the small elevator capacity which resulted to long wait.

Liked: Great place to stay in Hong Kong. I travelled all around asia as a Backpacker and its the first time I find such a clean place in a really good location. Bedroom is small that for sure, but apart from this, everything just perfect. I worried a bit cause this time a came with my wife and my one years old baby. Fridge for his food, hot and cold drinking water available, even a TV and DVD player that we didnt have time to use. If I have to go back to HK, either I may afford myself to go in one of those fancy hotel with a view on the harbour OR I would go back at Guangdong GH. Perhaps both as its so different but both great. David, Chan & Camille from France.

Disliked: You hae to queue to catch the tiny lift downstair. Dont be afraid by the weird atmosphere downstair, its bit strange at the first look but quite funny and friendly finaly.

Liked: the location is perfect, the rooms are clean and you get everything you need (even things like soap, shampoo & condtitioner). And we could leave our luggage with Simon on the day we left, so we could go into the city the whole day. Free wifi.

Disliked: None, we already knew in front that the rooms were small and that it is very busy at the ground floor of the Chungking Mansion, but that was not a problem at all for us.

Liked: There was only one staff member and he was very kind and accomodating. The room was clean although very small.

Disliked: Dirty construction men riding the same elevator as hotel guests. Dirty construction materials lifted on the same guests elevators. Mall is a meeting place of people of India and Africa They don't look dignified at all, all manual laborers and some hustlers. I have friends from India and Africa but well educated and dignified.

Liked: Friendly staff en cleanliness was good.

Disliked: We thought that we booked a room for the day. Unfortunately it was Chinees Newjear and very busy (we didn't know). Because of this we could not check in before the afternoon. During the travel we skiped a night and the reason for booking the room was to get some sleep. It was a dissapointment that we could not check in in the morning, because we sind up for that on the website.

Liked: Very nice clean guest house. Great manager.

Disliked: The rooms are very small. But very good value for the price. The mansion in which the guest house is in is very seedy. Guesthouse itself --- great.
