Disliked: actually, i was dismayed because we booked at paris guest house and were shoved to city guest house because we were informed that it has the same owner and they will just put us where it is vacant. i am very easy to please, i guess i just didnt like the way the manager explained it to me.

Liked: Location.

Disliked: Extremely small and smelly room. It was a hole somewhere in a chaotic building with a little window that opens not sure where, not allowing the sunlight to ever reach the room. Very dirty and smelly sheets, blankets and towel. And of course no toilette paper was supplied. Good deal at 20HK$ per day, not at more than 500 HK$ per day which is what it cost us.

Liked: It was very conveniently located.

Disliked: The key didn't work so I couldn't lock my room from the outside and when I complained they did nothing. I didn't feel like my stuff was safe.

Liked: It's a wee small but very cheap good value for money option. The location is just very very good to discover hong kong. Our room was a bit small, but very practical in its use of space so that didn't bother us. Bathroom was just fine, nice hot shower and clean (western) toilet. After a month on mainland China we were quite happy with that! Bed linen and towels were clean and matrass was better then we've had in couple of weeks. At the ground floor there's some indian take-aways with cheap and nice food to pick up for breakfast/lunch!

Disliked: It's not a place to meet up with other backpackers, but we didn't mind. There's loads of people around the entrance trying to sell you suits, copy watches or handbags. Slightly annoying, but not in an unfriendly way. It's actually part of the full Chungkin mansions experience...

Liked: The staff was really helpful and friendly. The dorm room I stayed in was clean and newly renovated, I highly recommend staying in.

Disliked: After having seen the single rooms, too, I'd rather recommend staying in their dorm rooms.

Disliked: I was dumped into Germany Hostel one level below without explanation. Room was not cleaned in 4 days.

Liked: great location, helpful staff and clean in general. wireless connection was extremely fast, which was a pleasant surprise.

Disliked: the sight of touts in their numbers was unsettling at the start, and irritating at the end of each day, but it was not unsafe. that, and the problem of slow lifts, were about the only negative points about the hostel.

Liked: For those who dislike the touts and rate the hostel lower because of that, don't stay in the mansions. The rooms are small, but they are small everywhere, even in the hotels. If you are looking for a big room, go to one of the big-name hotels and be prepared to spend 10x or more for one night. I almost always stay in one of the two mansions when I visit Hong Kong. I like it because it's close to everything and a great starting point for almost anything you might want to do anywhere in the city. The touts and the guys who hang around all night outside on the first floor or around the corner at 7-11 add a lot of character to the place. :) The mansions are what they are and an experience worth having. I've never been sorry for staying there. I have been sorry for staying in other (much much more expensive) hotels, on both sides of the harbor.

Disliked: Staff seemed a little confused about what services they did or did not offer. I left my clothes to be washed at 6pm the first night. The next morning around 10am I went out and asked when they would be ready and was told that they didn't do wash, didn't have my clothing, and that the washing wash facilities were somewhere else... In the end, I got my clothes back (unwashed). Not a deal breaker for me, but it is something that could be improved.

Liked: Good location, nice rooms. The rooms are VERY small but okay. Price was good and cheap.

Disliked: We were there for 6 days and never had room cleaned once. However we did get clean towels once. The smell from the building is disgusting. Elevator wait is a few minutes but not too bad.

Disliked: a bit noisy, and hard to find and orientate in the building- in the 7th floor of a huge building with many inside sub-entrances, tiny hallways,...I would hope they have a good evacuation plan in case of fire

Liked: The proximity to amenities like shops, restaurants, museums, parks. The helpfulness of the staff. The cleanliness of the rooms. Free and consistent wireless internet.

Disliked: The towels and linen were not always clean. Poor ventilation of the rooms and corridors.

Liked: Nice place to stay, would definitely go there again. Owner Aman is a nice guy. The rooms are a bit small, but all hostels in HK are like that.. Furthermore it's very clean, internet works fine.
