Liked: Lovely helpful landlady, very friendly and full of helpful advice.

Disliked: Very, very basic and pretty run down. Tiny room with no curtains and lots of traffic noise.

Liked: Emily, the owner is very friendly and helpful. Location in Mon Kok is near the MTR and the (night-) market.

Disliked: Toilet didn't flush well, room on the street side pretty noisy due to traffic.

Liked: I liked how it let me experience the "old" and crowded/dense part of Hong Kong in the Mong Kok area.

Disliked: Unfortunately my experience at this hostel was generally negative. I emailed them beforehand in person and told them I would be crossing the border from mainland China into Hong Kong and that I was guessing I would make it in by 4pm. Well, things took time, and when I finally got there a little after 6pm she said I was "too late" and that the room had been taken. She told me to pay her for the 2 nights, which I did, and said to come back at 9pm to "see if a room was available". Well, it wasn't, and due to the language barrier (she doesn't speak good English and my Mandarin is poor - she speaks fluent Cantonese), she told me to come back tomorrow. That was crazy - did she expect me to sleep out on the street that night? I had already paid her for the 2 nights, so I demanded she figure out a solution for me with the help of someone else translating. She took me down the street to another guest house with minuscule rooms, but the place was too small and the bed was too short for me (note this first night I didn't stay at the Ka Wut Villa). Then the next morning I finally got the room I deserved. It was slightly bigger than the first place. However, 2 things bothered me - the first was that the fitted sheet covering the mattress didn't appear to be clean. You only get 1 blanket, so I decided to cover the mattress' sheet with it and sleep on top. Also, as other people have mentioned, the toilet doesn't flush. You must fill up a bucket provided using the shower hose and then dump the water into the toilet's tank until there's enough to flush with. Also, understand that this is one of the more cheap, tiny guest houses in Hong Kong, which means the toilet, sink, and shower are all combined into one little room, which shocks many foreigners as you'll be getting the toilet and sink wet as you shower. The next time I go to Hong Kong I'll get someplace better - only consider this place if you want the bare minimum for the cheapest price.

Liked: The place is very accessible and near the train and bus stations. Great for those wanting to stroll around Mongkok. It is cheap and clean. The lady owner is very friendly and I would gladly stay there again if ever i go back to HongKong.

Disliked: It is small but still very good for the price.

Liked: Run by a very friendly Chinese woman. Good location close to Mong Kok MRT. It's 5 minutes walk and you can use an above street walkway the whole way. Airport bus is also very convenient. Lots of cheap restaurants nearby.

Disliked: Tiny room and expensive for what you get but this is Hong Kong so to be expected. Bathroom and most of the bedding was clean but the blanket smelt a bit.

Liked: It's very cheap, but you definitely get what you paid for. The landlady was very helpful and sweet.

Disliked: The toilet doesn't flush, there was a cockroach in the room.

Liked: 1) Central location and very close to the MTR 2) The land lady was very helpful and available when we wanted. She helped us with bus routes, etc. Her English was broken but she used to communicate to us some way or the other 3) The room was cleaned everyday so inspite of the fact that our flush did not work, we did not find it a big problem and continued to stay here 4) Bed sheets, bath linen, etc were very clean 5) Since we used to come in only for the night to sleep, have a quick shower in the morning and leave for sight-seeing, we found this place to be good value for money. 6)Very safe location. They give you the keys to the main building and the room and you can come in and leave at any time with no restriction.

Disliked: 1) The toilet flush did not work and we had to use the shower to flush down! 2) The room was very small for two people and it looked like this was a room for three ! 3) On our 4th day, our luggage was moved to another room without any notice. We were in for a shock when we came in. A strange looking, non-English speaking lady explained something in Chinese that we did not understand. That evening, the land lady apologized saying that they had to move us because there was a booking for 3 people in the room that we stayed. 4) The room is on the 1st floor and no lifts. So if you have heavy bags, its tough to get them up and down

Liked: - Very convenient location, stone's throw from MTR stations. - Food all around at every corner - Street markets and bargain shopping on parallel streets - shopper's haven - Quiet for peaceful nights, clean, friendly and helpful owner, complete with wifi for Facebook addicts Don't be concerned with room size, cos this is Hong Kong and good luck to you if you're hunting for a huge room. After all, a room while traveling is meant for sleeping and bathing only. Bathroom was a decent size, no bumping about.

Liked: This is more similar to a homestay than a hostel. Definitely not a party place. It's quiet enough for those who'd like some peace.The lady who runs it is friendly and extremely helpful, though she doesn't speak much English.The room is decent size by Hong Kong standards and has a TV with 2 channels in English. Hot/cold shower.About 10 min walk to Mong Kok subway, very straight-forward route to get there.Mong Kok market streets (Ladies' Market, Fish market) are all around.

Liked: I loved that I had a private room, bathroom and tv... with the ability to make free local calls from my room. I don't travel to party with a bunch of random people, I prefer a private room with comfort, quiet and value... and this place has all that!What made it even more of a great place to stay is the wonderful personality of the owner. She is a sweetheart that doesn't bother you too much but is still there to help with anything you need. The location is great, many shops and restaurants as it is close to the Mong Kok station. And it is very safe someone watches the front door to the building 24 house a day as well as either the owner or someone to fill in if she isn't there is always at the actual rooms. I had not one worry!The owner went above expectations to make sure I was happy and I will definitely return to stay there :)Thank you!!!

Liked: Very clean hostel. Staff very friendly and helpful. Their English is limited BUT we all made a lot of effort to communicate so things worked out fine. I stayed on another week because I felt comfortable at this hostel.

Liked: Character would be one way to describe Ka Wut Villa. We didnt expect that we would be staying in a Chinese residential building, however it was located amongst the main Hong Kong markets in Kowloon. The staff were all very friendly and very helpful. Definently would recommend to anyone on a strict budget, personally would pay the extra $$$ for a hotel to get away from the Hong Kong smog :)
