Liked: The very friendly and helpful local lady who was always cheerful and kept the place clean

Disliked: No hot water ... only one tap in the bathroom which meant you couldn't change the temperature

Liked: Friendly staff ... excellent breakfast from the very friendly lady local lady working in the hostel. Nice location just a couple of mins from the main centre. Nice common area and very well equipped guest kitchen. Social hostel without being a big party spot! Staff seemed focused on security too.

Disliked: Not a lot to dislike .... maybe a bit quiet if you are looking for a big party scene but otherwise very good spot.

Liked: Staff were very friendly and helpful. Great breakfast and a very friendly host/chef/cleaner! Dorm beds were comfy and showers hot!

Disliked: Only slight downside was music booming through the hostel both mornings at 8am - not so great if you wanted to lie in a little longer!

Liked: The hostel was clean and safe. We had a good laugh with all staff, they offer lots of tours which suits every one, was like going for home to home. Breakfast was included, which was great. we totally enjoyed our stay and would recommend this to every one.

Disliked: To be honest, nothing, we where totally happy with our stay, its the second time Me and my partner have stayed there and so highly recommend it.

Liked: Clean, good value, secure (lockers in room),and good breakfast (eggs, beans, and veges instead of the usual boring bread and butter). There was also an issue when we arrived but they resolved it quickly for us. We booked our room online through hostelbookers.com and we paid the deposit and had confirmation, however when we got there they had no record of our booking and no private rooms available, which is what we had booked. This was their fault, not hostelbookers. Base Camp Hostel didnt update their availabilty. This was the second time this had happened to us so make sure if you book online you call to confirm as well cause theres normally someone at the reception of the hostel who is untrained and has no idea of what they're doing. At the end of the day it all worked out ok and the people at Base Camp went out of their way to fix the probkem.

Disliked: The only genuine person working there was the lady that cooked us breakfast, the rest are only nice to you because they want good reviews or they want you to book tours with them.

Liked: Love that dog!!! The most beautiful ridgeback I have ever seen, she is a looker! The hostel was great too. Very comfortable environment. I really appreciated the fact they had no problem with me bringing in my own wine and the kitchen was very nice. I figured I saved plenty just on cooking in. Cheers Base Camp Staff for the help with my shuttles.

Disliked: Nothing that was the fault of the hostel itself, more like really bad weather and the power and internet went out. Other than the typical Central American Natural Disaster, the hostel was great.

Liked: This place was awesome!! I had a great time because the staff was more than friendly and went out of their way to help everyone out.Thank you Rose so much for all your help. This place has everything one needs and more. I also did a hike with O.X. and it was exceptional. Overall I recommend this place to everyone.

Liked: I was inside during the night.

Disliked: If this hostel was a $25 room in the States, the following would be expected. However, this is Guatemala, and $25 can get you a much, much nicer place, without too much digging either: 1) No key for private room, meaning stuff is not secure unless you give it to the desk people. 2) Walls are thin, can see light coming through them, noisy! 3) Private room right next to bathroom, so you're "entertained" by every person's visit to the shared bathroom. 4) Shared bathroom seems to get cleaned daily, but might only be to check the toilet-paper level. No cleaning seems to happen. Wear flip-flops, and "make a seat" of toilet paper when relieving yourself. 5) For the same money, you can get a room in a nice, clean, hotel with private bathroom, only a block or two from the plaza. You won't find them on the internet like you can Base Camp, but they are there, and plentiful.

Liked: It was super clean and the people were nice. I think it was pricey for what you got though. There was only bread for breakfast, no internet, and there are super high bunks and if you get there too late, you are on a third top bunk. Yikes.

Liked: Super friendly and helpful staff, most of whom seemed to be from USA/Canada. Really nice and stocked kitchen, free purified water, clean. The staff is mostly 20-something's who are living in Antigua leading outdoor expeditions for some period of time. They often hang out in the hostel common room on couches that face each other. They are committed to making your stay great (more-so than other hostels we've stayed at). Highly recommended!

Liked: Me and my girlfriend loved the place. Definately one of thew best hostels we have been to. The staff was a little crazy, but in a good way, and the whole place felt like home. Some people say that you could not lock the doors, but at least our door had a lock.We also did a couple of overnight volcano tours with OX, which run by the same people. They were also very professionally run and we had a blast.

Liked: It would have been cool to have toilet paper and running water in the bathroom... and a key to the room... and lockers you were actually allowed to lock. And, the staff was not very helpful.

Liked: beautiful place to stay, close to the centre of town but not in the centre (so its not as noisy as it might have been), really really good common areas, and free wifi!the only cons i can think of is that the office below doesn´t open until 10am, so if youre leaving early make sure you´ve got all your stuff sorted before you check out, and it isn´t very well signed - look (or ask) for OX adventures (the shop underneath)

Liked: Base Camp was our home in Antigua for over two weeks, and we couldn't have picked a better place. In some hostels the staff just does their job, in this hostel they do their job and become your friend. We enjoyed learning to play chess from Victor and playing other games provided by the hostel with other guests. The hostel is structured as a house, which adds to the feeling of comfort. An iPod setup exists for those that wish to play their music or the music provided by the hostel. Cable television exists along with a DVD player for viewing movies. There is a full access kitchen with every dish, utensil or pan you could want. Base Camp also provides adventure excursions out of the hostel through O.X. Excursions. We took advantage of their overnight hike up active volcano Pacaya. What's great is that the same friendly staff that works at the hostel also runs the tours. The hostel dog, Xela is also a joy to have around and a protector on the volcano. Every morning Maribel had sweet and salted bread with peanut butter and jelly on the table alongside coffee or tea. The hostel does have wifi access, but it is intermittent. There is an internet cafe next door that works great. The hostel will also have your laundry done the same day for a fee. We would only go back to this hostel if we were to visit Antigua again!

Liked: Really awesome place. This was where we spent our first night in Guatemala and it was a perfect start.Victor is really friendly and helpful; the rooms are good and comfortable; hot water and wifi internet all worked well for us and we could get away with only speaking English(!).Highly recommended. Thanks for a great stay :-)

Liked: this is a great hostel! the beds are comfy, there is a great bar close by (but not too close) and there´s a decent book selection. its about a 10 minute walk to the centre, and less than that for some great church ruins. definitely reccommend this place!

Liked: The hostel is in a great area of Antigua and very convenient to restaurants, bars, shopping. It's in a really cool house, clean and spacious. The kitchen and chill out area are great. The staff was very friendly and helpful and made me feel right at home. What is especially good about this place is that the office for OX (Outdoor Excursions) is right in the hostel and you can meet and talk to the guides and book awesome hiking and camping trips on the volcanoes around Antigua. I went on an overnight trip to Volcan Pacaya and roasted marshmallows over the lava. They also do a bunch of day biking trips and can arrange other cool stuff to do.
