Pension George is owned and run by Santorinian-born Georgios Halaris and his English wife, Helen. The couple lives on the premises with their two bi-lingual daughters - so there is always someone available for information or assistance.

All of the rooms have an en-suite bathroom, a fridge and a safe box. Most of the rooms have a balcony and air-conditioning. There are also some studios and apartments with all of these facilities, plus a kitchenette and a satellite TV.

The swimming pool is set amid a pretty garden and is the perfect place to relax after a hard day of sight-seeing.

Breakfast is available upon request and is served either in the patio, or in the small breakfast area.

Free transportation is provided from the port or airport.

The pension is located in the traditional village of Karterados, which is a 15 minute walk into the capital town of Fira. There are buses available from Karterados to all of the main beaches, archaeological sites and villages and also into Fira town.

Close to the pension there are taverns, bars, snack bars, mini-markets, a newsagents, souvenir and clothes shops, a bakery, a travel office, a laundry and car and moped rental offices.

Helen can reserve and issue tickets for guided bus tours and boat trips to the volcano, hot springs and to the small island of Thirassia, as well as horse-riding and diving or scuba diving excursions. She can also organize car or moped rental.

There are 25 rooms, all of which have a private en-suite bathroom, a fridge, a safe box and air-conditioning.Most of the rooms have a balcony, except for a few budget=-priced rooms.All of the studios have a kitchenette and a T.V and can accommodate between 2-5 persons.

Location Information

Pension George is situated in the middle of Santorini in the traditional village of Karterados, which is the nearest village south of Fira. The distance to the busy capital town of Fira is 1.5 kilometers - 15 minutes walk or a 2 minute bus ride. There are frequent buses both into Fira and to all beaches and other destinations from Karterados bus stop - which is 5 minutes walk from the Pension.
In Fira there are numerous shops, restaurants, bars and night clubs. Fira is the hub for night-life and shopping. The Old port with its 257 steps is where guests can take a donkey or cable car up or down to visit the small harbor or take a traditional boat trip to the volcano, Hot Springs, little island of Thirassia and Oia for a breath-taking sunset. There are several museums in Fira - Pre-historic Thira, archaeological, folklore and Megaron Gizi museum. A 5 minute bus ride away is a winery where visitors can tour the wine factory and enjoy wine-tasting whilst enjoying a fantastic view across the famous caldera bay. Also 5 minutes in another direction takes one to a wine museum for more wine-tasting ! [Santorini is famous for its wine - so there are many wineries around the island!]
In Karterados there are many traditional taverns, shops, bars, mini-markets, a laundry and a bakery - so there is really no need to go into town, if you don't want to. Visitors can relax and enjoy the village hospitality and local dishes whilst sampling a taste of Greek island style life.
