Liked: Such a great and social environment. Chris is a kooky old bugger but he will happily show you the best hikes and make sure you have a great time in Plakias. And then at night he will give you his home made organic wine and you head into town with all the crew!

Disliked: Bit far away from the town and beach but I'm not complaining for $10 a night!

Liked: one of the better places i've stayed, but as my guide book said, this is definitely for independent travelers. i had a blast because i love trekking during the day, and the night life afterwards.

Disliked: it felt a bit awkward at first breaking into the regular group that goes there, but was no issue after about...4 hours.

Liked: Great price and good location. Very cheap breakfast. Great place to meet people and have good nights out!

Disliked: A bit too much pressure to drink and party every night. Lots of drunks every night in the dorns... earplugs are a must! No kitchen because the owner wants us to eat in the town at one of his many restaurants.

Liked: this hostel is the friendliest place I've ever been! perfect for long stay. very clean and offers almost everything you need.

Disliked: it's on the south part of the island so you should wish that your ferry would be on time if you're travelling by ferry, or you'd miss the final bus to Plakias. but all in all, it'd be still worth it to get there no matter how!

Liked: I have stayed in hostels across the world and only a few truly stand out to the point of recommendation. This hostel is probably the most social hostel I have ever been to. There is a core group of long term and repeat guests/staff who are extremely welcoming and invite you in like you are a long lost friend. Highly recommended for folks looking for a social yet extremely relaxed and low key experience off the main tourist highways.

Disliked: Having to decide whether to walk to the beach or to take a nap. That was about as stressful as it got.

Liked: Chris was most accommodating when I altered my dates of stay at this hostel. It's a great place to meet people and I can see why so many travellers stay on for longer. I loved the showers - probably the best hostel showers I've experienced in 6 years of travelling. Everyone is so friendly here, I'll be recommending this place to everyone.

Disliked: Would have been nice to have some lockers in the rooms just to add a little security.

Liked: Beautiful location, green space surrounded by mountains.2 rooms make a small house and they are spread out, all with a porch.Use of fridge and tea making facilities.Travel books to use.Opportunity to stay in Plakias (and in Crete) on a low budget.Meeting people.Clean showers and toilets as well as eating area.A nice change from the cities, still there are things to do in Plakias.

Disliked: Afternoon siesta is observed, but can be noisy at night. It is intended for people partying. Rooms further away from the communal area may be less affected. When trying to book on the phone I was told there was no vacancy, when searching online, it came up and I could book. I think peak season people who books months ahead and stay for longer are preferred.

Liked: The most friendly hostel I have stayed at, Chris, the other people staying there, and some of the locals-- this is a wonderful place to be. A list of possible outings with directions as well as some equipment to borrow makes it great even if you have no idea what you want to do. A great place to be super active and party a little or just relax and have some quiet nights.

Liked: great place in a small town that has a lovely beach. the host is great and there are losts of info on how to get to fantastic semi private beaches and hikes and secret spots. i recommend this place if you are going to crete for fun and beaches.

Liked: The property is absolutely amazing. I have never been at such a picturesque hostel, and hey the price cant be beat. In many ways the hostel earns its reputation, but I did also feel that its reputation has created a bit of a strange vibe. It seems less like a hostel and more like a community. That can of course be a great thing, but Chris the owner can be quite short with you unless you seem to have found your way into the community. For me, it was just a short stay, and I felt some weird pressure to make best friends with everyone at the hostel, and because it was such a short stay, Chris was not particularly friendly with me. That being said, I cannot complain too much, all sorts of insider information is provided, and as i said before, absolutely beautiful. just know what you are getting yourself into.
