Liked: The staff was great and very friendly. Only took about 5 minutes to get to the metro station so easy access to everything.

Disliked: Location was a bit questionable but never felt threatened, even walking late at night. Wished wifi had reached our room, but common area was always open.

Liked: Fantastically helpful staff, gave us advice on everything from where to eat late at night to how to get to Delphi. Well-located in general, and convenient services (the free internet was especially useful)

Disliked: The neighborhood felt fairly dangerous late at night, but no problem travelling in a group. The only issues we had tended to be with Athens itself rather than the hostel.

Liked: It's been the best hostel I've stayed at on my 60 day trip. for how big of a place it is, the staff is incredibly personal and friendly which if not usual in my experience. Free interne, wifi, which is actually fast, good, cheap breakfast. Well air conditioned.

Disliked: In order to turn on electricity in your room, you must insert your key into a slit which can be really inconvenient especially for sleepers, as it brightens up their night, and my roommate decided to pull the key while I was showering one day, leaving me I in the dark.

Liked: The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, especially when there were public demonstrations occurring which made traveling difficult. The pricing was definitely affordable.

Disliked: I did not like the location because it was very far in terms of walking distance from tourist areas, markets, and shops. The atmosphere was not what I had expected for youth or student travelers. The facilities were older than I had anticipated.

Liked: Good to be able to stay in a female only dorm with air conditioning and great breakfast.

Disliked: It depended on the staff that were on as to whether you could get information. I found a certain staff member very unhelpful and she came across as though it was a pain for her to help me out. This was quite annoying as I was travelling by myself. However another member of staff was very helpful so it balanced out in the end. The location, while quite centrally in town was quite scary really. There wasn't much activity which meant you felt uneasy walking from the hostel to anywhere after about 8pm.

Liked: The staff were extremely helpful and gave great directions and information about things to do in the city. Great to have the use of a kitchen and it was a nice place for meeting other travelers!

Disliked: Nothing.

Liked: The bathrooms and rooms are nice, and the staff is friendly and helpful.

Disliked: If going to Athens, try to stay for only 1 to 2 days. Once you get out of the Plaka (the old town close to the Acropolis) the city is really quite a dump. Most of the cheap areas to stay are not in the Plaka, but close to Omonia (the city center). The area is very run-down and there are a lot of drugs and homeless people. When we stayed there, nothing happened to us, most of the people just mind their own business, but it was still rather uncomfortable to walk around even during the day.

Disliked: The bathroom was always wet due to the curtains in the shower that were too short.

Liked: Reasonably good facilities, very functional property and good for a more laid back stay. Also has a very good Balkan restaurant around the corner, lots of good food around 5 euro and the only place you can pick up cheap beer!!

Disliked: Didn't let us drink beer after midnight!

Liked: The staff was friendly and the breakfast was reasonable, free internet and wifi, there is somebody there 24 hours so you feel quite safe here

Disliked: Location is slightly dodgy but a quick walk from the metro so nothing grave.

Liked: They have FREE (fast) wifi! Free, secure Baggage storage. A lot of security measures. The two male employees were very nice. Each room has a porch!

Disliked: Extremely unsafe part of town. We got stared down every time we walked through the neighborhood. There were always police patrolling the streets, and they told us to hold our bags close. We witnessed an attempted mugging and a car break-in right next to the hostel (It sounded like someone either blew the car up, shot the window out, or something, but it was extremely loud.) It's also very noisy at night. You're surrounded by project housing and abandoned buildings. Very plain decor. The water from the shower spills out all over the bathroom floor. The older lady who works there is very unfriendly and makes you feel stupid for asking questions.

Liked: Athens International Youth Hostel was very clean and the staff was extremely helpful when it came to planning my days in Athens.

Disliked: I did not feel safe leaving the hostel or walking around the neighborhood near the hostel. It is located very close to Omonia, the most dangerous area of Athens, and the street the hostel is on is very dirty and full of creepy men. The first day I was in Athens, I didn't see any women and it was very unsettling. I recommend only staying at this hostel if you are traveling with guys or in a group. Women travelling on their own should not stay here because of the location.
