Disliked: The place is huge, not a negative in itself, but it is almost like any character is lost once you head towards your room.

Liked: Great value for money.

Disliked: It felt more like a hotel than a hostel. There were large numbers of kids on school trips which was kind of lame. Such a big place made it harder to meet other solo travellers.

Liked: Amstel has a great downstairs common room, which is very social. They also have a game room with foozeball and pool. The bar has a good variety of drinks.. including a delicious hot chocolate for only 1 euro. Upstairs, the rooms are simple and clean. The service is 24 hours, friendly, switched on and helpful. The dinners they make are great.. they made a special pasta buffet for the marathon runners, and had free energy packs, which was a nice touch. For the price you pay, it's well worth it.

Disliked: The hostel itself is massive, which unfortunately means you may end up with a massive high school group staying at the same time as you. We had that and they were really noisy late into the night and early into the morning.. shouting to eachother through the windows. No kitchen for making your own food unfortunately.

Liked: I really enjouyed my stay at Amstel house, the staff was really great even going as far as helping me book a plane ticket! The place itself is really nice, in the lobby full of couches and tables where you can meet other travelers, and the game room is really very good as well. The rooms are pretty clean save for the mess made by room mates, but the hostel can't control that...

Disliked: I only have 3 problems... first off, Amstel house receives bus loads of high school children, who are poorly supervised and are very noisy. second, the wifi was constantly cutting in and out and, at lest I, could never seem to access it. Luckily there is a lovely little bar accross the street with wifi that works wonderfully. Lastly there was no kitchen... I found that disapointing, however, it's not difficult to eat cheap in the neighbourhood so it's not that bad.

Liked: Everything about this Hostel was great accept the location. Outside the city center, you have to take 2 different trains to get there. Other then that the location was clean, friendly, the breakfast was good too. They offer a laundry service which is really nice if you have been traveling a long time and need your things cleaned.

Liked: Amstel House was a good clean and basic property, exactly what I would expect from a hostel. Recently fitted, and security measures on par with, if not exceeding a good hotel.

Disliked: A little basic for spme, perhaps, if any more was expected, and somewhat hot at night - but great value for money.

Liked: The bunk-beds were quite comfortable and you received free linnen. The staff was great as well! The hostel had a game room and comfy couches in their lobby where you chill. FREE INTERNET! They also had computers that you could use for free. I

Disliked: The location was so and so. It was quite a long ride to get into the city (Alexanderplatz). If you don't mind living not all too central then I'd totally recommend this hostel.
